The governments took their time but slowly they see the possible privacy voilations.

Section of the article:

America's Federal Trade Commission has started looking into whether OpenAI's ChatGPT is breaking consumer protection laws by causing reputational or privacy damage. Claims to that effect were made last month in private civil litigation when a radio host in the state of Georgia sued OpenAI alleging ChatGPT defamed him and damaged his reputation by falsely associating his name with a criminal issue.

Wait, so people decide on a phone based of OS because of blue or green chat message colors? This is the first time I'm hearing this, is this something more of a USA thing or does this apply to other ocuntries as well?

Buying a phone based on chat bubble color seems something that occurs in a toxic society, where you are judged based on phone model. And why do they then change to an other platform to write you?

I never had a discussion about Andriod or IPhone based on this parameter, it was more about UI, services and design of the phone. To be fair we all use third party messengers like Signal or Threema.

This is kind of a though one, abortion laws are a minefield but it seems they clearly broke Nebraskas law. When this article is correct then she was in her 28th week pregnant and Nebraska allows abortion for up to 20 weeks. If this is true then Meta has to obey the countries law and hand over the data they have, which also includes chat history. This is not about abortion, Nebraska clearly allows it, it is about breaking a law and the authoroties that investigate it.

I still find it idiotic that Metas apps still have encryption off for chats as a default, Google also they just enabled E2EE on Gmail last year if I'm correct. But it has to be keept in mind that compenies have to follow the laws of the countries they are in, I do not want to defend Meta (honestly fuck them) but they have to comply. When the state has a warrant and requires Meat to give unencrypted content they pretty much have to give it over. Like Proton that had to give the IP from an activist to authorities because a judge decieded they have to.

To have better privacy we do not only have to critizise companies but also change the laws that they have to obey.

When you want to watch YouTube but without the ads:

  • NewPipe on phone
  • Invidious on browser (under attack by Google at the moment, have to see how it goes)

And as others mentioned there are some alternatives:

  • PeerTube
  • Odysee

Swim in the Aare and, hear me out, hot tea.

I saw it in hot dry countries, there they drink tea and since I started to do the same, I can tackle the heat way better.

I generally see the enjoyment it can bring (especially to the younger folks), but I do not see it as necessary. It scares animals, generates toxic waste and releases toxic fumes.

I could live without it.

I agree with the "any political direction they want to", but this also true with the YouTube algorithm or Twitter feed-filter. I see the danger, especially when the media is payed by the state, but it is important to keep in mind that media content companies make money too by pushing you into a direction. The more extreme the direction is, the more screen time a user gives the platform and therefore generates more money.

Yes, finally!

Kind of sad I have to say.

I know that TV and Radio is "old" tech, today you can watch everything you want at a click of a button and you have millions of different content creators. Maybe I'm getting old too but I like to just hit a button and listen what ever is on, I find this kind of media consumption relaxing. Mostly with SRF-4 where they talk about something and mostly it is interesting and is about a topic I never thought would interest me.

I get the personalized media consumption, but I think it is sometimes good to not choose specifically what to watch/see, helps to see stuff outside of ones bubble.
