I actually did, there was no reason to suspect bots would stop working.

The one I use doesn't block other instances, although I probably will block the same instances and people that big instances already block, I want to be the one to make that choice and shape the content I see.
I use fedilabs, don't know if the other apps have caught up (hope they did) but the timeline function where you can add timelines from whatever instance you like and also have tags as timelines is so OP.
Since I spend most of my time browsing other instance timelines that feature is a must.
I mean, yeah, that is the whole point.
You need to search for key words or alternative just press a hashtag you see on a post, hashtags is how all instances communicate since there isn't a proper text only searcher across instances.
Hashtags are extremely important if you want people from outside your own instance to find your posts and they are heavily used by everyone for that reason.
Of course you can manually search for users, or go to other instances and follow people from those, that way yohr own timeline will be filled with people outside your own instance.
I will probably wait for it to have some good apps, I'm really enjoying connect for lemmy right now and I just hate having to use web browsers to access social media on my phone regardless of how good the site actually is on mobile.
Damn the guy felt like a pick up artist, kind of disappointing the author made him such a unapologetically bad person, like seriously who starts mocking women's capacity at an intellect based game on a first date?
Would have been interesting to see a a potential love interest for her and if that would have affected the protagonist on any way. I guess the author just wanted the protagonist to look cool but it is such a laughable antagonist that it left me laughing instead of taking it seriously
You are quite the poetic person, I bookmarked this post because of how much I liked the analogies and expressions, I really like how you write!
That being said, really liked your observations and your description of the effects of it being FOSS.
I do feel thought that you didn't really give concrete suggestions, as I understand it your points are:
- take the freedom this platform gives, now it doesn't have to be decided with corporate interests behind, just look at the community.
- the issues this platform currently faces are for yhe communities to take creative approaches to, not necessarily to imitate what is already done since it's a chance to do things different.
- all those that just came in should trust on the people building this communities, rome wasn't built in a day.
It is more of an inspiring message rather than concrete recommendations right? Not a criticism, I'm just checking if I got it right.
That said, once again, beautifully put.
Mastodon is nice an all (I switched from twitter to mastodon 2 months ago and have really enjoyed it) but some people just want twitter 2 and not necessarily a federated service where you have to worry about what instances are blocked, who can see what, etc. Also the fact that some people want twitter to interact with celebrities and content creators, at least from those I follow almost all the ones that mentioned moving are going to bluesky.
Those are the two reasons I can think of on why not just moving to mastodon, I love mastodon but for me its more about interacting with people in a way different from what rwddit was fue to the lack of feed and algorithms to show you content, it is all chronological be it an instance you look at, the tags, etc.
And mastodon lowkey lacks being more approachablr right now, for the average user choosing an instance is a difficult task, there are many good videos explaining it and all, but joining mastodon for a lot of people takes effort since it involves learning about the fediverse and that is a bareier of entry that prevents the mass appeal twitter has.
I do feel this issues will solve themselves once more people start using it and once it gets more big celebrities (not just the tech related ones), but it is understandable why some people want a different thing.
Can you be a mod from a different instance or do you need to create an account there? (Also thanks for answering)
r/writtingprompts by far my favorite community of all time and I hope it makes a resurgence
Other ones would be r/the10thdentist, r/nottheonion and r/askhistorians (they probably will never join since they have their own website to fall back own if it all goest to shit)
Lastly r/manga, I said this one as separate because I have seen a few but the community is not there yet, especially lacking features like what are you reading this month and at MOST having 15 subscribers
"Developer claims" didn't steam literally announce this like 2 days ago??
Only 1, haven't needed to have more accounts and there isn't an instantance I have wanted to visit but that has blocked mine yet, so no need to have another one right now
