The Soviets were the last to land on the moon (other than China).
NASA has been too busy pissing money into the Shuttle and SLS industry subsidy programs. I think they have a couple micro lander projects on the go though, slated for next year or the year after.
It's disappointing particularly because it would have been the first landing on the south pole.
It's also a bit silly because NASA hasn't exactly being doing so well since their last moon landing more than half a century ago.

Chip companies are hating losing access to the Chinese market and probably avoiding export controls like firms are with Russia
China's domestic manufacturing is fine for older chips with military applications, and there are no controls on buying cloud computing time so that's booming.
Ultimately China will struggle for a few years but developing a self sufficient domestic chip sector count will benefit them in the long run.
