FWIW I agree with you. Anyone who abstains from voting because neither side perfectly aligns with their own politics is an idiot and, in a first past the post system like the USA, actively helping the party that they most disagree with.

We don't have free speech in our constitution, but we have protection of free speech in common law, unless it's explicitly banned by legislation, like some hate speech is.
