Yep to the lounger. It can take a few days for it to find the happy spot where it suddenly doesn't come unstuck and send the resident cat on an unplanned descent, but it really is that simple.

Looks pretty good. We have a similar lounger (3 actually!) And they are well used. Look on Amazon for toys, springs are a hit and feather chasers are too. I don't use wipes on our boxes, once a week they get hosed off outside and soaked in homebrand napisan for a bit and dried in the sun. Some cats prefer running water so a fountain might be an option too.
Most places you don't need to book for a glucose test. You will need to take a book though, because you're not allowed to do anything in between tests.
Pairs will be better if you can. That way they have a companion and then there are less behavioural issues. A bonded pair or siblings is great fun.
You may need to see your GP to help clear the post viral cough.

I can put the bottom part of mine in the dishwasher, it was a major selling point for me
Yep, it gives the men something to do!
Oh no! You've had a run of bad luck lately π
You're the spare human!
That is sad. I have had cats all of my 40+ years, the last 20 in my own home. I've never had a cat scratch the furniture, but I have always provided multiple alternatives and now with all the options readily available it is so much easier to provide them. I have 3 at home now and my couch does not have a mark on it and it's 15 years old. The scratchers have copped a beating though!
