I think the difference with his guitar playing and drawing was that he probably just didn't enjoy learning guitar. Tons of people buy an instrument to only learn later that they didn't like it as much as they thought. Not trying to say you don't know your kid, just pointing out that learning an art requires an interest to put into it. It can definitely be frustrating to realize that you aren't as interested in the learning process of something you had dreams of being good at.

Has it ever occured to you that those abuses happen because of people's attempts to delegitimize it? Despite attempts to make it illegal or to otherwise shame those who participate in it, it hasn't ceased to exist for as long as humanity has existed. Prohibition didn't make people stop drinking alcohol, it just created more crime and unsafe scenarios. Drug use being illegal doesn't stop overdose. The fentanyl crisis is a direct result of drugs only being available from non-legitimate sources. Onlyfans has created a very safe space for sex work. It's not perfect but it is leaps and bounds better than an alternative where it is illegal.

I believe your experience that everyone you met on the streets found it to be degrading. Have you ever thought that was because of the environment that you were in? Sex work performed by homeless people usually only exists because no legal alternative exists for their clients. Also it becomes a last resort for income for desperate people and as a result can put them in not safe scenarios.

As far as it being degrading, that's also attributed to the unsafe conditions that many women and men are forced to work under. It really isn't hard to find sex workers who are proud of their life style and live happy lives due to their success in the industry. Unfortunately they are in the minority because of all of my previous points listed. Most of the negatives that you talk about are a direct result of your and others shaming, not anything that is inherently wrong or immoral with sex work itself.

I've enjoyed OSRS on and off since about 2004, but if you're wanting to avoid walking simulators, it is the worst offender. A big part of the game is calculating the best possible path to follow. You are making trips to the bank in between every activity and multiple times per quest. Many skills exist just to ease to burden of traveling around the world.

My personal favorite MMO is vanilla WoW. I'm obviously biased but it is just what I had the most fun with back when it came out and I think it still holds up incredibly well today. I play on a private server called TurtleWoW and it is 100% free. They have continuously added their own expansions over time and are currently working on a client that runs the game in Unreal Engine if you desire more modern graphics.

If it seems to old school, Guild Wars 2 is a really good choice as well. I played through the base game and first expansion of FF14 and ultimately wasn't impressed. It's great if you like to role play with other players, but everyone is so focused on playing the meta that it took all of the fun out of the game for me. People would kick me out of groups for trying to play with my own personalized set up.

Giving 110% means you're the best at that particular job. Goodluck ever seeing a promotion.

No it is only turned off during maintenance or by an emergency kill switch.

I am an orderly that was in surgical services and we had a young girl covered in nazi tattoos that came in for surgery. We had to care for her the same as anyone else. Of course we all talked mad shit after that anesthesia kicked in.

This was or maybe even still is a thing. My grandpa was forced to wear a sock on his left hand when learning to write as a child. He would be hit if he didn't.

Maybe I'm thinking of another user but don't you have many universalmonk accounts across many Lemmy instances? Is it possible another of your accounts was already banned? If that's the case then perhaps it could be seen as ban evasion if you post from another account.

The joke is just the idea of someone doing something as absurd as what you said. This is 100% fake. It is either a TrueWagner post or someone else similar. It is the picture version of a Tim Robinson sketch.

Cooter Cooler rolls off the tongue better.

I believe every genre is filled with good and bad music. I used to think I didn't like country or reggae but it was really just the mainstream music of those genres I disliked. Mainstream country has a lot of stereotypical lyrics and mainstream reggae has a lot of slow single chord riffs. But after a bit of digging I found artists and songs that explore those genres in more unique ways.
