Is ISW just making this stuff up? It seems like there's mixed messaging as far as 'how things are going' reportage goes. NYT is saying they may have reached this line, ISW says they're operating beyond it and calling this a potential breach of "the final line of defense" while Hersh is saying they've basically stopped? Just fog of war stuff?
Doubledee
Within the story of the game there are indigenous people, and you can decide whether and how to help them resist the US army. I thought it was respectful although it seemed pretty pessimistic about their predicament at that time. There's a debate between indigenous characters as to what effectively preserving their people means against an enemy like the US.
But I'm a so what do I know.
I mean if you're not positive that workers will reap the benefits of it it makes sense to resist. The poster is more specific: it says to fight the fallout of automation, less pay and more work for a smaller group of people. The Luddites are a joke to a lot of people these days but they correctly identified that automation was making their jobs worse and making everyone who did them more miserable.
Given how automation has impacted other communities in this country (take a trip through coal country some time) I think it's wise to be skeptical. I'd love to live in a world where we don't have to work because it's all automated and I can go paint landscapes or whatever, but I don't think that's likely to happen.
/s? Right?
Edit: didn't look at the username. Classic blunder.
I think they meant "How many dead Ukrainians is it worth to keep a portion of the country full of people they don't like within their de facto governance?" I don't see anyone pushing for Russian aggression, I see people frustrated by the body count compared to the results on the map.
But in a sense they're also dropping the pretense. It isn't nice but it is good that they are being clear, when pressed, about how little they care about you. When things go sideways their plan has always been to abandon working and marginal people and retreat to their safe enclaves.
I think you tend to see this stuff from liberals who kinda know the jig is up, it's a fantasy in which they get to follow all the rules and win in politics without taking any action themselves. For some of them it might be the only scenario that they can imagine where they win.
I'm seeing reporting to the effect that there is a breach in the southern defensive line, and that things might start moving again. Anyone know if there is anything to this? Just cope?
What the fuck even is this question? Is it a joke I don't understand?
I can't in good conscience make a worker's day worse because of something they don't control, but I understand the sentiment. I agree though that collective action is probably our best shot at seeing change.
The enshitification of all things is so frustrating. You witness perfectly useful technology being destroyed in the pursuit of like 5 dollars. I don't answer the phone unless I've told someone to call me because it's always a robot, my email inbox is full of garbage I didn't ask for so I don't check in much, now they've got robots texting me scams. I can't even pay for petrol in peace, because they make a nickel having a tiny television try to sell me an energy drink. And nothing is done because heaven forefend that anything should come in the way of an extra .02% increase in some asshole's quarterly report.
I think The Worst of All Possible Worlds is very funny. They often talk about incredibly weird media and I always have a fun time listening to them.
