People expect more when they pay a price premium. It's really not that complicated.

I got the base M1 Air. I really wanted to upgrade the memory and storage, but I just couldn't justify it. But I think you're right that most people just grit their teeth and pay.
Honest question: RAM is so cheap, why is Apple even doing this? Is it just so they can advertise one price but then convince people they have to level up? What's the advantage to the 8GB to them.

If the Apple App Store is best for the customer, then the customer can choose to use it.
