You'll get more frequent updates with the IzzyOnDroid repository:

v.0.0.33 just went live, i see! :-)
... and indeed, i can tap to collapse anywhere. Font sizes are fixed ... Just some things still not al the way satisfying, will have to file another bug: a collapsed subthread all the way at the bottom can not be opened again. ~~And it would be nice to still have some context visible on a collapsed comment, perhaps truncated and in small font.~~ (is an option, shows whole comment, though)

That works until I say something stupid

There's a way to overcome this. IMO it comes from constant trauma because somehow we have (mis-)understood the others as judging us as stupid. Hence, we continue to be wrongly judgemental about ourselves. ... Until we even fear our own judgement.
I was bullied as a teenager as ostensibly being "slow". So i had learned that i was slow at comprehending. -- Until someone told me that apparently my comprehension is more complex than that of others, so i was constantly processing more information and associations.

Well, it has yet to come alive. No worries.

btw. i believe that i am actually quite sure about my inner states, just that i don't want to boil it down to simple verbal language because that doesn't fit it. I would need to use a different language. Give me the right music and i will dance it, or let me get my drum and i will drum it!

How do we make these emoticons happen?

... But on topic: I discovered that i have quite a few characteristics "in the spectrum" while i was in a burn-out situation. One Greta Thunberg popped up at the same time, and she came to my rescue. Masking is demanding and unhealthy. I do not know if i would qualify as "autistic" in the clinical sense ... but i'm certainly divergent enough so that constantly trying to blend in would drain me completely.

Alternative for now is to split it in two, and insert a link from part 1 to part 2. Part 2 could also be a comment. Not pretty but smoheow wroks. :-)

I see what you mean. Jerboa leaves only the username visible but hides the comment from view. I just checked Boost which i used, and it does the same. I'm with you in that being able to find a specific sub-thread again after it has been collapsed would indeed be good. I would prefer the collapsed comment not to take too much space, so that would be small font and truncation for me.

I found the collapse function somewhat unusable anyway, because i would want to collapse when i had reached the end of a branch in a sub-sub-thread, but then i'd want to collapse only that branch which i had just read, so that i could get back to the parent of that branch, get the context again, and start reading the next branch from there. Therefore i'd find a collapse-up function logical. It could still leave a bit of context of already-read stuff visible, though, as long as it doesn't take too much space.

~~Care to file a feature request over at github?~~
Just found that this might already be done in the next version: https://github.com/dessalines/jerboa/pull/438

Apparently there is a limit. I first came across this when i read through a lenghty piece about their philosophy by an admin of beehaw.org. They had to split it. I just checked, and that has 6304 characters. So, i guess the limit is somewhere around 6500, but it could be up to the instance's configuration, too.

hmm. That talks of data mining not of derivative work from the mined data. ... I'll leave the discussion to others, though.
What effect would a Creative Commons "ND" clause have? Is it reserving the right to make derivatives? And would machine generated stuff even count as a derivative?

DuckDuckGo translate:

Copyright and Related Rights Act (Copyright Act) § 44b Text and Data Mining
(1) Text and data mining is the automated analysis of one or more digital or digitized works in order to obtain information, in particular about patterns, trends and correlations.
(2) Reproduction of lawfully accessible works for text and data mining is permitted. The reproductions must be deleted when they are no longer required for text and data mining.
(3) Uses pursuant to subsection (2) sentence 1 shall only be permitted if the rights holder has not reserved them. A reservation of use for works accessible online is only effective if it is made in machine-readable form.

There is an effort to get the cross-instance link format fixed so that they first have the home instance handle it, but it would also contain the remote post ID in order to fetch it if not yet done. IIRC, so Jerboa might also be able to do a direct request if there is some indication of it being a network-internal link, perhaps
Automatically stay on an instance, when given a link to another #1048

edit: somewhat noob mock-up

Thinking of proposing this in a comment on the issue.

You mean, like automatically uploading videos to PeerTube from the Lemmy UI? Yep, that would be nice to have at some point. I'd guess it's not a priority right now.

Not a dev, but i'd suggest to test if it can be reproduced. Also test with a different camera, and try to find out if perhaps your camera application puts in wrong orientation info.
edit: this might be the same issue --> https://lemmy.world/post/39678 (funny synchronicity that the "all" feed of my server brings up these two posts from different instances next to each other :-D)
