Communities themselves currently do not show up in community search results, this may change in the future; see #2943.

The linked issue was just closed as not planned. Maybe some comments in there could explain how we all want these features to work? The current solution seems a little suboptimal. Maybe hidden communities in search results should have an icon to show they're hidden.

While on the https://leminal.space/ website, open the search page and paste in the community ID or the URL of the community. Give it a few seconds (even if it says no results found, the remote search can take a few seconds longer than that)

I think the remote subscribe feature you were trying to use is still buggy, I've had issues with it before too.

I wonder if instance admins should start closing old/redundant communities, just so the good ones are easier to find

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 1 points 6 months ago

yea dependencies seem like a real issue here, I don't think Linux supports side-by-side versions like Windows does, Windows will just install every version of DirectX and libraries like that

Not being able to create your own custom feeds is also a massive problem because you can’t split your feed into types like memes/news/discussions/meta etc.

Summit can do this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idunnololz.summit&hl=en_US

They call it a "multi-community"

Low traffic communities get buried in your feed when you subscribe to them

I use Subscribed+Scaled sort to fix this issue, it's my default sort method

Post about your favorite TV show in a tv/movies community, don’t make a new one just for your show.

I agree, but I also don't want to spam those communities lol.

Like !deus_ex_randomizer@lemmy.mods4ever.com or !stauf_mansion@lemmy.mods4ever.com would be too much spam for one of the gaming communities, or patient gamers.

And it'd be even more spammy for the communities that are in-between in specificity (like !adventuregames@lemm.ee or !deus_ex@lemmy.ml)

I just do rare cross-posts for the most notable posts

or provide a better explanation what it exactly is doing?

I know most people won't go outside of the site to figure this stuff out, but for reference: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/users/03-votes-and-ranking.html

It's basically the Hot ranking but divided by the number of active users in the community, Subscribed+Scaled is my favorite feed

[–] Die4Ever@programming.dev 4 points 6 months ago

have you tried Scaled sort? I use Scaled for my subscribed feed and it does a great job showing new posts in niche communities

Another 90s song for Throwback Thursday!

Beat Creator! The devastating beat creator!

The world first sub 20 minute time in the Super Mario 64 - 16 Star category blindfolded speedrun has finally been achieved. After 10 Months of restless grinding, 118 days / streams of practice, runs, and more, the most ambitious goal in blindfolded SM64 has finally been broken. Bubzia has broken the previous world record by more than 40 seconds, with a final time of 19 minutes and 43 seconds.

The sub 20 minute barrier is an achievement that many people strive for when they start out speedrunning visually. Bubzia has written speedrunning history by achieving this milestone while entirely blindfolded. More than 7.5 years after his first blindfolded 16 Star speedrun, this is what the speedrun has evolved into.

I am so incredibly happy that I pushed through all the hardships that this challenge has thrown into my face. It has been a really fun blast, there have been so many new viewers to blindfolded speedruns in general, and many sticked to me grinding this challenge daily for the last year.

I honestly don't have much to say about the run, it can still be improved and maybe I will return one day. But as cliché as it might sound, the much more important part than me breaking this milestone and the world record is the absolutely amazing and kind community that I have. Thank you all so incredibly much!

There will be more blindfolded speedruns in the future, stay tuned! 70 Star will be broken next!
