Yes. There's a local compost site in my city where lawn clippings, leaves etc. are brought. Dirt is free to take for residents.
tldr: Four Supreme Court justices think it's okay for the US government to not pay bills for services already rendered.
Addendum: that probably should read as "Trump government". I doubt the Supreme Court would have come to the same ruling for the Biden administration.

Instead, I put bed racks upstairs. The extra space below the bed is room for storage, or clothes drawers, or (in a pinch) pillow forts.
I think the real lesson should be about public transportation.
