It's a little much to compare it to spousal abuse, but it's honestly not far from the truth. As for asking for more privacy, you're absolutely well within your right to ask for it, but it's well within Microsoft's right to say "fuck you I'll spy as much as I want because you agreed to be spied upon when you agreed to our EULA that you probably didn't actually read".

Microsoft windows is an advertising platform now and nothing more. Windows as a home operating system is a drop in the bucket for Microsoft, they want you spending money on subscriptions for O365, Xbox gamepass, and Azure Cloud. They want enterprise SQL licensing and azure cloud licensing, they couldn't give fuck all about some butthurt dudebro who plays call of duty, they want copilot subscribers and to be the driving force behind LLMs and AI not Meta or OpenAI. Your privacy is the last thing Microsoft will ever care about, and if you don't take the initiative and stop using that piece of shit intrusive OS, then idk what to tell you.

I did finish vanilla, but then there's another like 5-10 hours of pre patch content, THEN you get into Heavensward, and frankly I just didn't have the time to deal with that much filler.

Guild wars 2, it's free to start and B2P for every season and expansion with no FOMO or P2W mechanics, only convenience. I see a lot of recommendations for FF14, but one thing most people don't tell you is that the vanilla game is absolutely terrible. The main story quest (MSQ) for vanilla is just bad and boring, to the point where they actually cut some content out of it because that content was unnecessary. It's still long and boring though, and I really wish they would just give people the option to freely skip the vanilla game with a recap video and go straight into Heavensward because that's when the game gets really good. If you can power through the vanilla story of FF14, then I guess try it out, but my vote is GW2.

Love cachyOS, I don't pay much attention to the claimed performance improvements. I just think it has some really good defaults and in-house tools for beginners that make navigating an Arch distro easier.

They coined the term "HR in the room" with dragon age veilguard and called the entire dialog tree in every scenario terrible when they only took a single dialog path. As I have personally played the game and enjoy it as do several people I know, it's pretty clear they were upset by the fact that they weren't included in review copies. Now that's not to say veilguard doesn't have problems because it clearly does, but dialog in my current playthrough has been perfectly fine. There have been other reviews like this as well for lower profile games, DAV unfortunately was a very high profile game reviewed by a disgruntled YouTuber with a large platform to voice their opinions. The real tragedy is that the meme stuck and veilguard will always be labeled as this terrible "woke" entry into the franchise when in reality it was perfectly fine.

To put it simply, Skillup is not genuine in their reviews and in some cases very clearly have an "agenda" to push. I'm not a fan of that behavior, so I'm not a fan of Skillup.

Not a fan of skillup at all but this is good. Hope it picks up traction.

Can I get an invite to that server as well?

The problem I've found in the past with these kinds of big discord servers is that they're primarily used to advertise streamers or YouTube channels. Meaning they're full of inactive people that just post in streamer link chat channels when they go live and that's basically it. I was actually a mod for a big gamer discord server that ended up exactly like this, so the few of us that were active branched off and made another server with only the active people. Problem is life gets in the way and sadly eventually they drift apart as well. I would love another active cozy server though.

As a pixel 6a user I'm excited I'll get a few more years of support and use out of this phone.

Damn 2004 was a banger of a year for video games.

I'm a 37 year old IT Cloud Engineer, I have a great job, great house, love my family, but recently I lost my dad to cancer after a 16 year battle. My brother likes to say cancer had to cheat to win, it was all because he broke his back and had to be taken off his treatments for to long. Cancer is a fickle bitch...

Prior to losing my dad, I lost my best friend, who apparently dropped dead in his backyard. I don't know the specifics and frankly I don't want to know. Either way, these events effected me, and I started having massive panic attacks and anxiety issues, constantly afraid for my health even though there's nothing wrong with me. It took a few months of therapy to realize I needed medical help.

I was put on antidepressants and everything changed, I was a human again for the first time in like a decade. I was happy, I was successful, but now, idk if I'm just having a midlife crisis, or if maybe I'm just feeling depressed again, but I just feel lost. I've lost one of the few people in my life I've modeled my success after, my father, I lost the other person I could hang out with and empathize with, I have my wife and I love her to death, but my friend had been that person that was just there to hang out and make you feel better, and now they're gone. I'm still struggling to cope and it's just really hard and I need a place to vent.

Anyone have any ideas on how to cope and move on as well as control the anxiety without the need to be medicated?

TL;DR: Lost my dad and my best friend in the course of two years and it's been rough. Now I feel lost and confused constantly. Cloudy brain and I just don't want to be complacent in life and need some advice. Thanks for reading.

Edit: just wanted to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I'm going to take the advice I've been given here to heart and try some new things to try and give me some direction. Thank you all again so much for the help, it really made me feel a lot better.

So I've seen a few posts regarding news outlets calling the protests a failure, and I don't really think that's the case. The protests have clearly made an impact, especially if the Reddit CEO is willing to oust MODS to reopen subreddits. I truly believe that something has been jump started here on Lemmy, Kbin, and all of the fediverse. What happened on Reddit has simply pushed those already on the fence, or looking for other social media platforms to jump ship. I truly believe the impact is greater than what the media and Reddit in general want us to believe. Something has started here on the fediverse that simply cannot be stopped, all we can do is inform others and show why it's the future of aggregated news boards and social media.

OpenMW is an excellent version of Morrowind and arguably probably the best.
