Roblox in quite similar to Garry's Mod; it's a creative platform for you to build your own games/experiences from. Whether that means just playing with the vast catalog of content others have created or diving into the code and creating your own content.

Oh no! We're going to make even more money on the electricity production you can't easily replace; while we diversity our auto markets (we buy more than we sell, Hello EU + Chinese auto markets) and laugh at Ford+GM begging for another bailout.

How many more times is America going to let their wannabe king shoot them in the feet?

Just a quick google search: https://www.rapidseedbox.com/blog/guide-to-usenet

In short, you need three things:

A) A Usenet Client. This is equivalent to a torrent client, but for nzb files. I recommend Sabnzbd as an easy to use client with a nice web interface like qbittorrent.

B) An NZB indexer, equivalent to a torrent indexer, but for finding .nzb files instead of .torrents. These are almost always paid access, but with pretty low prices. I use nzbgeek at $12/year, though they have an $80 lifetime membership option.

C) And finally a usenet provider (what you're actually connecting to to download data). There's a few maps around to show you what providers are available such as this one. Pretty much all of them offer decent speeds, high data caps (if limited at all), and SSL; so the main things to look for are location and retention.

Retention is how long a usenet provider keeps messages (files) around for you to download before deleting them from their servers.

Servers located near you is good for speed/latency, but having servers located in seprate regions governed by NTD vs DMCA means takedown attempts are less effective.

Some say you should have multiple providers in multiple regions; but I've been happy just using Frugal Usenet Monthly for $6, or yearly for $60.

With usenet, items download at max bandwidth/disc write speed, 96% of what I've tried to download is available (from sabnzbds stats), and when/if something fails to download it happens within a minute or two allowing you/the 'arrs to immediately try a new nzb.

Now, when I request an item from the arr stack; it's almost always available to watch within 15min. No more waiting on slow/missing seeds or stalled torrents; and no more seeding torrents fishing for copyright notices.

Dec 4 was the day Luigi allegedly pulled the trigger.

I don't know what that has to do with today and Mar 10th though...

The problem is that the federal government is taking a literal chainsaw to critical life saving programs like disability, social insurance, and USAID, while ignoring expenses like maintaining golf courses that are purely a luxury.

You've got federal funds available to invest in fertilizing the grass so people can be entertained; but can't possibly continue to keep people alive and off the streets??

Hundreds of thousands of federal employees have lost their jobs, with many panicking not knowing where their next meal will come from. Millions of people worldwide have been cut off from food, water, and medical supplies that the US had promised to provide (whether actually supplying the goods or providing transport/protection). These people WILL die because of this; but the putting greens are looking nicer than ever!

I just used that as an example as it's a commonly known free tracker.

I use Usenet with private indexers almost exclusively myself.

There really is no other option.

Is that so...

? That's a bizarre response.

No one here is trying to fleece you. People are suggesting ways to run your own instance as that's the major difference between Reddit and Lemmy; you're not obligated to use someone else's hardware or be subject to their rules, you can setup your own systems and have a bit more freedom. Reddit doesn't give you that option.

Your account is subject to the rules of the instance it was created on, as well as the rules of each community you're interacting with. If you run afoul of the admins for your instance, you can be banned, losing access to that account completely.

If you were to run your own instance; no single admin could ban your entire account if you pissed them off. You can still be blocked from communities or entire instances if you don't play nicely with others, but you won't lose the account so you can still use it in other instances/communities.

For most people this isn't really necessary; but lemmy also has a pretty large number of tech nerds that like to self-host our own services, so you'll get quite a bit of 'heres how you can do it yourself' type responses.

Unlike reddit, you can just setup your own space on your own hardware completely under your own control, if you don't like what's available.
