As far as I know, the only plugin I’d use and need doesn’t exist.

I understand why Valve wants to keep things simple and doesn’t offer a way to have separate power profiles/resolutions, but would have thought someone would have created a plugin for such a user case.

Of course I don’t have the ability to do it myself, but it sounds simpler to realise than a lot of other plugins.

For those who are playing docked and handheld, how do you manage?

I’ve read that some users are just toggling on and off the per game profile, but it’s just a workaround.

So I've got my LCD Steam Deck for around a month and I've been only playing docked (no dock but with a USB-C cable) to my computer screen so far, but I plan on playing it on the go as soon as we go on vacation or as soon as I start playing another game than Frostpunk which requires a mouse.

For now I have a few questions:

-I have a Philips screen Model 273B9 and its resolution is 1920x1080@50HZ. Sometimes the resolution is all fucked up when I turn on the Steam Deck and sometimes it's fine. I've tried disabling the automatic adaptation in the Deck settings, but so far, I haven't found a perfect solution. I'm also a bit lost about the necessity of changing the in game resolution settings or the Steam per game properties settings for resolution.

-Is it possible to have a setup (TDP, Framerate, resolution, effects, controller settings) for when the Steam Deck is linked to my screen and charging through the USB-C cable coming out of it and another more economical setup for when I'm on the go. Ideally I'd want the Steam Deck to detect these situations automatically, but I don't mind having to just select a profile every time I'm going from one situation to another.

-As I'm often buying games from my Surface Go running Fedora or my iPhone (through Firefox, not the app), is there a way to see if a game is steam deck verified on the store from these devices? In a way, I'd want Steam to know that my only gaming device is a Steam Deck and that everything I'm ordering is for this device.

-I also plan on buying around half of my games on GOG. Can someone confirm that I'd get achievements through Heroic? I feel a bit ashamed to say that I've been addicted to trophies on Playstation for years..

-Can you use Steam input to modify controller settings for non-steam games?

-I also haven't found a way to get a swiss vitual keyboard in the UI (QWERTZ with é,è,à). Is it impossible because the Deck isn't officialy sold in Switzerland? I can do it in desktop mode, but the one from the Steam UI is still the one appearing no matter what I do.

As I’ve said in the past (see my older post https://sh.itjust.works/post/33787188), I’ll probably buy an used LCD Steam Deck alongside my Playstation 5 right after my wedding as a gift to myself in 2 months.

I’d be using the Deck mostly docked to a screen to play Strategy games like Frostpunk or other games not suited to consoles.

I’d also be using the Deck while travelling (which doesn’t happen often) to play some retro games I’ve missed like the Metro Trilogy.

Here are a few remaining questions:

• Am I right in thinking that I could play on the big screen games until the middle of the Playstation 4 era?
• Am I right in thinking that I could play on the Deck’s screen almost every game which could run on a Playstation 4?
• Since I’d be buying a used LCD deck, I fear that the battery would be in poor health. Is there a way to know its health? If I replace the battery, could I get a better one?
• My PC screen can charge devices through USB-C and has 4 usb ports. It delivers enough power to charge my Surface Go 1 while using it. In my mind, it could clearly replace a dock, but would I have any advantages in getting one? Could the official dock be used for another handheld like my kid’s Switch?
• If I end up using a Dual Schock 4 or a Dual Sense when my Steam Deck is docked, will I have to pair them again with my consoles every time after using them with the Deck?
• Since I'd be buying a used Steam Deck, is there anything I should be particularly careful about?

I'm a Playstation gamer and a Linux user for my administrative tasks.

Since my computers (Microsoft Surface Go 1 and upgraded MacBook Pro 2012, both running Fedora Workstation) aren't powerful enough to run some 7-8 years old games unavalaible on Playstation 5, I'll probably get a (maybe used) Steam Deck by the end of 2025. It could be another handheld, but the Steam Deck is my favorite for now as reparability and Linux compatibility are high on my list.

I'd be using the Deck to run some games, but also to work when docked to my Philips 273B through USB-C, also using a USB mouse and keyboard. I'd be keeping the Playstation 5 to run demanding games and do sim racing as I don't even think a Steam Deck 2 would be powerful enough.

Here are a few questions: -I love Gnome, but I'd be willing to give KDE a shot. If I don't like it, how difficult would it be to have Gnome while keeping the normal Steam OS? -I know that I could wipe Steam OS and get Bazzite with Gnome. Except getting Gnome, what are the advantages of getting Bazzite over Steam OS? What are the inconvenients? -I think that KDE is now in version 6.3 or 6.4. What is the version that you now have on Steam OS? For an obscure reason, I coudn't find the info on the web. -What can you easily upgrade on a used Steam Deck (probably not Oled)?

I bought a cheap used gaming mouse for my son (Logitech G502 Hero) as I want him to learn how to use Linux on a really old computer.

This gaming mouse has a scrolling wheel without any resistance. It works fine, but I just wanted to know if it’s a normal behavior before rating the seller.

As you can see, I’m a Linux user, but clearly not a PC gamer yet (Playstation).

I’m a Playstation gamer looking into moving to Linux gaming as the next Playstation might not be able to play physical games.

Here are my 2 computers:

MacBook Pro 2012 (upgraded) with Fedora 41

Surface Go 1 with Fedora 41

I bought Frostpunk on Steam after checking on Proton DB that it would normally run on the MacBook as I knew the Surface Go would probably be way too weak.

According to Proton DB it’s a Gold game.

In the end, no matter what version of Proton I use, it doesn’t launch on the MacBook. I have a black screen, some icy sounds and then it crashes at best..

I then thought, let’s give it a try on the Surface Go and it launched immediately without any tinkering using Proton experimental.

But, the game crashes when the firat cinematic starts, probably because it’s loading too many assets for the Surface.

If anyone has an idea about what to try too many get it working on the MacBook, I would be thankful.

In the meantime, I would want to know, how do you know if a game is gonna run on your machine?

With the launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% provided by someone here, I managed to start playing and only noticed low fps and audio crackling. For now I also only tried it on Proton Experimental and 6.3-8 seemed to work better when I was just struggling to launch the game, so I’ll try to remember to update this post and Proton DB when I can get more time to play.

I was really happy with the 4.2 liters V8 in my S4, but the Cupra gives me more performance, more practicality and is cheaper to run. Would have loved a manual version if you could get it with fake AWD.

I plan on keeping the Leon Cupra for another 10 years before switching to an EV Estate if they appear one day.

I’m a happy Thunderbird user but I miss one feature.

Is there a way to have emails organized a bit like a Whatsapp/Signal conversation?

What I mean is that I would want to have the conversations sorted by the person you’re interacting with, no matter the topic and being able to just scroll up and down a conversation.

I have a lot of back and forth between my ex, her lawyer and mine and this feature would make things way easier if it exists.

Right now my conversations are already grouped under one discussion, but I still have to go to the sent emails to check what I’ve answered in the past..

I’m a separated dad with a demanding job and a fiancé. I only have the kids when I’m not working but I want to be fully available for them.

Recently, I’ve noticed that it would be difficult for me to play more than a story/ambiance game (next one is gonna be either Dead Space Remake or Aliens Dark Descent) and forever playable game (Gran Turismo 7 since its launch).

If I played more games with the time I have, I would forget the story or the controls. I haven’t tried but I’m pretty sure of it.

The problem with such a system is that I’m almost a aralyzed when I have to chose which story/ambiance game I’m gonna play.

So what’s your system and what are your time limitations?

• Cars: Throttle House, Everyday Driver, Car and Driver
• Console Gaming: GamingBolt, IGN
• Tech: Linus Tech Tips, Techquickie

Concerning Linux, it has been easy to find alternatives to YouTube as The Linux Experiment is on PeerTube and I can support him for 1$ a month Through Patreon.

Tech Hut is on Odysee so I could watch his videos here and support him through Buy Me A Coffee or something similar if I wanted to.

I know I could watch everything from the Linus Tech Tips on Floatplane but 5$ a month is a bit too expensive.

Do you have any suggestions about anyone producing similar content to what I’ve described above (Basketball, Console Gaming, Cars and Tech) that I could watch on a YouTube alternative?

I don’t mind paying 1-2$ a month for a channel I enjoy but I can’t pay more for now 😇

I run a Surface Go 1 with Fedora Workstation on it and with the Surface Kernel installed in order to improve bluetooth.

Sadly, lately, it ain't improving anything and my Surface Go just seems to have lost its bluetooth connectivity as it only manages to connect to my Sony portable speaker.

My work iPhone and my Microsoft Modern Mobile Mouse aren't detected/can't detect my Surface Go, but I can still send files through LocalSend (I guess it's not using bluetooth).

As I'm getting tired of these problems, if I don't find a quick solution, I'm looking at getting a wired mouse or a bluetooth dongle.

Since I already have my bluetooth mouse, a dongle would be practical but I'd want to be sure that I won't run into bluetooth problems with it anymore.

I don't know if it changes everything, but my Surface Go is almost always linked to an USB-C screen from Philips that I'm using as an USB hub. So the dongle would be on it and I'd use the trackpad when I'm not in front of that screen.

I’m new to the Waydroid user community as I’ve just started using it today.

My goal was to use it to listen to Tidal instead of the web browser since I had to log in every time.

For now it works pretty well even if it ain’t perfect.

I was wondering what other people are doing with Waydroid on Linux as there might be an use I haven’t thought about 😇
