Yeah, I prefer the term "canned sunshine"

As someone who just recently made that leap, I have to say its not as huge and daunting of a switch as it may feel, but its also not nothing of a swap.

I'd def recommend people start by using alternative app stores and getting used to that before making the swap. Was def a helpful first step for myself.

I tried a bunch of different things, mostly in the trades / trade adjacent work (welding, wood working, etc) and really liked it, but I have incredibly unsteady hands so just didn't do well in the job I did land.

Planned to go the engineering route in college, but then discovered I had a knack with computers. Don't particularly enjoy it (I do HATE the office work aspect) but it just makes sense to me while not making any sense to most. So found I could make money with my skills and just stuck in that lane.

I'd say it comes down to finding something you can tolerate and have reasonable promise at skill wise and that pays the bills.

So there's obviously alternatives like Mullvad and AdGuard, but those have the potential to evolve into the same corporatist setup as google and cloud flare.

Are there any decentralized solutions that one could use to replace these? The structure of DNS says to me there probably isn't, but looking to see if you know something I don't.

In an attempt to not be a total jack wagon, I found Mastodon runs one.

I had swapped to three button mode just after making this post, but swapping back appears to have fixed it. Thanks for the tip!

Sounds like something I'd do.

Was thinking "was new pipe the right project to reference in that comment" and I don't think it was.

Aren't there already basically projects for this? Seems like there's a local download leftover on a newpipe server when someone plays a video through it?

I know very little about this, but seems like if was a reason for "why running your own newpipe server could be troublesome"

And if Trump did try to pull a third term, I'd hope the democrats would have the guts to put Obama up again.

So obviously the Johnsons this article refers to are nuts. I want to be clear my take on that.

My concern is that the take in this article seems to say "taking care of yourself" (even when not done in a culture way) is a form of fascism. Its not drawing clear lines between "I want to be under 30% body fat" (the clinical definition of obesity for adult men) and people who hock health supplements/miracle cure lifestyles.

The article is critical of people worth criticizing, but it also seems inclined to say "any steps you take to be more fit are you giving in to capitalist grift and fascism", which I staunchly disagree with.
