Our government was designed, probably not intentionally but it is possible, to not work.

Currently it's not working so we can't do anything unless the president orders it, which isn't how shit is supposed to work but now has precedent.

American exceptionalism strikes again

Republicans (see, it's right there in the name) have been openly mocking people who think we live in a democracy for literally my entire life

I think we live in very different worlds. People absolutely lost their shit over Clinton's bans.

Legal interpretation doesn't always match up to what people see as their right and how aggressively they will enforce that right until the courts catch up to where they are. You're saying it happened with guns and we all just saw it happen with the religious extremists that run this country and abortion.

Unfortunately, this the correct way to view the legal system, as a means to an end that can be lobbied or bullied into getting what you want. Even more unfortunately, liberals view it as inviolable holy scripture handed down by God that must be honored regardless of whether you agree with it or not.

Life expectancy across the country is falling like a rock, very few of the root causes aren't incredibly bleak and/or unfixable issues but everyone thinks they understand how violent crime works.

I just tell myself being wrong is just the first step of learning, the only wrong move is giving up

I also would have assumed that, had they not said "historically Maine safe" then linked homicide statistics for three random years like some kind of chatbot scripted 10 years ago by some 14 year old kid whose mom works for the Greater Maine Chamber of Commerce, yet here we are

Only in the army would nobody question the assumption that hearing voices automatically translates into always doing everything the voices tell you to do

We're up to an average of 1-2 a day now, though; but formal statistics are explicitly legally prohibited from being gathered and compiled because pediatricians tried to turn it into a public health issue several decades ago.

You would not fucking believe how many toddlers find their dad's "unloaded" pistol, please do not ask me how many times a year I am rewarded for my poor life and career choices by being reminded of this

If you've ever wondered whether you meet the formal diagnostic criteria for narcissism causing impairment to your life to the point where it is a full fledged personality disorder - congratulations - you now no longer meet the diagnostic criteria for narcissism.

That was just a deep undercover cop/mob guy (sorry, I always confuse organized crime with the police, I'm working on it) on a bender though, shit happens all the time.
