It is preposterous that we have to treat this as a good-faith argument:
Environmental advocate Jennifer Godfrey's case, which has been dubbed the "orca appeal," focuses on the alleged environmental impact of increased housing production on Puget Sound's population of Southern Resident killer whales (SRKW). The appeal contends that the City didn't analyze the impact of increased water runoff and reduced tree canopy on the health of the region's most high-profile megafauna.
Yeah. I’d hate to see the PWHL do like the NWSL — I think there are games on six different platforms this year? Having one place you can always go and know the game will be on is ideal.
Climate Pledge was absolutely rocking from that Grant-Mentis jailbreak goal through to the end of the game. It was a fun one to be in the building for.
I would be shocked if Denver doesn’t end up with an expansion franchise next season:
With the success Denver has experienced, and the continued push to move the PWHL west and into more American markets, it seems a safe bet that Denver will get an expansion team, although one final positive showing could go a long way for showing that the Mile High City is not only a good market for an annual stop, but for a permanent franchise.
Some predictably strong words from Iran’s sports minister:
“Considering that this corrupt regime has assassinated our leader, under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup,” Ahmad Donyamali, Iran’s sports minister, told state television, according to Al Jazeera and Reuters.
“Our children are not safe and, fundamentally, such conditions for participation do not exist,” Donyamali said.
“Given the malicious actions they have carried out against Iran, they have forced two wars on us over eight or nine months and have killed and martyred thousands of our people. Therefore, we certainly cannot have such a presence.”
It’s getting kind of ridiculous:
The latest name added is Hassani Dotson, who is now in concussion protocol. Dotson was able to play all 90 minutes against St. Louis City but apparently noticed some issues afterward. He had previously been removed from the game against the Colorado Rapids two weeks earlier but was cleared to resume playing the next week without having to enter concussion protocol.
That comes along with news that Yeimar Gomez Andrade’s hamstring injury is bad enough that the MRI results have been sent to a specialist in England in order to provide more insight. While there is not yet a timeline on Yeimar’s recovery, Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer noted “it’s not good” when the team is inclined to seek an outside opinion. A very conservative estimate would suggest Yeimar is out at least until after the international break, which would keep him out for at least the next four matches.
With Kim Kee-hee still nursing a calf strain and both Ryan Sailor and Stuart Hawkins out for at least a few more weeks, Schmetzer said they are planning to use some short-term loans to add bodies to the defense.
And we still don’t know why?
“After discussions between Caf and its partners, Fifa and other stakeholders, Caf decided to reschedule the dates of the Wafcon 2026, to 25 July–16 August 2026; to ensure the success of this important women’s competition, in the light of certain unforeseen circumstances,” Caf said in its statement. The Guardian asked Luxolo September, the Caf head of communications, to clarify what those unforeseen circumstances were, but received no reply.
It’s not great!
The investigation was triggered in October 2025, whereupon the players were immediately placed on administrative leave. Which is also to say that the league was entirely aware of its vulnerability to manipulation before it went public with Polymarket, with an ongoing case of suspected match-fixing to deal with.
At a minimum, MLS must have understood that the optics of revealing a new deal with a prediction market would be very poor.
It proceeded anyway.
Good on Australia:
“We’re willing to provide assistance to other women in the team, noting that this is a very delicate situation, and it is up to them, but we say to them, if you want our help, help is here, and we will provide that,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told reporters.
“I don’t want to begin to imagine how difficult that decision is for each of the individual women, but certainly last night it was joy, it was relief,” said Burke, posting photos with the players to social media. “People were very excited about embarking on a life in Australia.”
Who could have foreseen that Trump would fail to pay his bills?
But the money has yet to reach these cities. Roughly four months out, not one of those cities has received a dollar of it.
At a congressional hearing on 24 February, an official with the Miami World Cup host committee testified that Miami’s Fan Fest – which is expected to draw hundreds of thousands – will be canceled within 30 days if the funding does not arrive.
In Kansas City, which will host six matches and expects 650,000 visitors, the deputy police chief told us in the same hearing that delayed funds stood in the way of security planning.
In Foxborough, Massachusetts, the town has threatened to withhold the license Fifa needs to host games at Gillette Stadium because it has not received the $7.8m it has been promised. For a community of 18,600 people, that figure represents roughly half of what the entire town spends on public safety in a normal year.
It’s just good all-around advice:
