This was obviously discussed ahead of him making that comment in public. There’s no reason Carney as PM should sit down with American invaders if they keep up with that rhetoric. It gives Carney the power to keep making trade agreements all over the world and if the US wants to discuss anything with him, they can fully stop the offensive rhetoric. If they don’t - fine. Carney doesn’t need to meet with them. Trump already tore up CUSMA. Trunp’s signature on agreements is already worthless. Carney has nothing to lose by not meeting with him.

Fuck I haven’t been to the US (not even for a stopover) since Trunp 1.0. I can’t imagine when or why I would ever go back.

I am SO down for this. And I firmly believe Canadians need to excise the American invader cultural hegemony from ourselves. The boycott has to extend to digital services and cultural services. I was only signalling that if govt starts outright banning US media, while I personally would be fine with it, it’s likely a very bad sign of things to come (ie, an actual military invasion incoming).

Been off that for years.

I would view it as an escalation if the govt starts warming us up to getting rid of US media, content and platforms. We shouldn’t be mass importing their media, news, worldview as much as we do normally but now they are invaders - digital boycott is a real thing.

The Ministry of Labour still exists - it is in the portfolio of the Minister of Jobs and Families which is responsible for Employment and Social Development Canada: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_and_Social_Development_Canada

Carney had to make some changes to demonstrate he's not JT. But also Carney reduced the size of cabinet for a more wartime stance given the tarriff war we're in. Also to perform austerity (less ministers to pay extra) while not actually doing austerity (they are responsible for more). All of this knowing we will likely be going into an election very soon. Each time there's a federal election new cabinet ministers are named. They change up cabinet minsters every so often as well. Whether there's an election or not. It's nothing new or unusual.
