my hot take is that windows ppl are like non-vegans: Keep it to yourself and we wont have a problem, but if you start doing anti-FOSS propaganda people are going to be all over that and you shouldn't be surprised
Chronicon
I watched this in the middle of staying up all night and enjoyed it. might revisit now that I'm more awake
It was not really off topic, to be clear, seeing as mako presented it specifically as "you don't need to install linux you can just remove the bad parts of windows". c/libre and c/technology both are perfectly acceptable places to post about linux (see the sidebar in c/technology), and I don't think we should quarantine linux talk to just c/libre or a new c/linux.
it's "for the left" in that basically nobody is raised a marxist, anarchist, etc, so most arrive at the actual left via first being a liberal and then seeing liberalism fail to accomplish the things it claims to care about. But they bring a lot of ideological baggage with them from liberalism, idpol being a part of that. It takes a decent amount of learning and reflection to overcome that inherited and come to an understanding of liberation and materialism that actually prioritizes those most downtrodden which idpol claims to care about, but in a way that doesn't require you to treat identity as the end-all-be-all.
Although reading it again I think that they mean it is cancerous to the left when it gets in, not that it is a product of or for the left specifically
Coming from someone who's flirted with giving up entirely in the past: You're wrong and should re-evaluate why you think this. Being outside tends to improve ventilation but it's not a silver bullet. If one wishes to avoid covid infection, then not eating at the same table, only a couple feet away, from a person who's been taking zero precautions, is a risk. Walking in the park, sure probably no need to mask there, it's usually easy to maintain some distance and you don't have prolonged contact with anyone, but sitting at the same table for an hour is not the same as that. But if say, there was a festival going on in the park and you can't avoid the crowds, masking becomes necessary again if you want to maintain a low level of risk. It's highly situational.
Just because you don't want to do it doesn't mean nobody else should or that there's no reason to.
My local anti-corporate anti-cop, etc alt. pride event was masks-required and it really re-opened my eyes in a way. I still have masks, and try to use them in crowded places or if I feel off, but I've been slipping and I didn't know a single person who is still masking like, on the daily. So going and seeing hey, here's several thousand people (minimum) and all are masking, almost all with n/kn95, was really nice to see and makes me want to be more vigilant.
I don't think you're at all wrong to be disappointed. These aren't random people, these are people who know you, know your situation, and still can't just like, put a mask in their bag and wear it to see you? The whole "fear of covid" angle that libs love to take is bullshit. You don't have to be afraid of something to take a basic precaution. I'm not afraid to ride my bike, even though statistically there's a risk that I get maimed or killed by a car every time I ride it. But I do still usually wear a helmet (and n/kn95 masks straight up are probably more effective than helmets if some research I've seen is to be believed.) It's not "fear" (or lack thereof) causing people not to mask, just social pressure and laziness.
trying to decide between cleaning my apartment (it needs it), going shopping for groceries/essentials (I need them), and playing Disco Elysium
I basically never play video games so this is actually a tough choice
honestly tho they weren't even "good" by the standards of struggle sessions lol. They would just go on endlessly with new people wandering in and nothing would ever get resolved
yeah this. they'd gain name recognition at the very least.
Yah :/ so did many people here though, and brainworms aren't permanent
yeah that's fair, I was being pretty generous to their excuse. I think their approach is misguided for that reason. We have managed to attract some of those people (global south and poc comrades) just by being principled and having a vibrant community, but lemmy.ml it feels like languished without a strong community before the reddit migration and was well, inundated with redditors after the migration. So they may have felt more desperate not to scare off global south comrades (if this is the case though, it clearly led them to making the wrong decision, repeatedly, and putting up with such shitlords probably scares away people you would actually want to have around way more than it could ever really convince the shitlords to change their views)
Its an unenviable spot to be in though for dess/nutomic, trying to run a general use instance, as leftists, without getting defedded by all the libs but also without utterly compromising your principles. Not having a cohesive base community hurts them a lot IMO
yeah its really neat if you're into that sort of thing (linky)
surprisingly easy to do yourself. If the linked post is to be believed 120+C is overkill, and just doing boiling water is much easier and self-limiting in temperature (I believe her but
)
And the shelf life is aided by adding a bit of preservative like benzyl alcohol
