Or instead of subverting the will of the community, you could create /c/lemmyfossapps and moderate that, instead. It makes more sense to make a separate community than to fracture one that already exists.

I don't believe USPS can open packages without a warrant (which is why they're the preferred courier for drugs), and I don't think "multiple packages going to a wrong address" counts as probable cause. But it's been a minute since I've been involved in that end of things, so I dunno if that's still current protocol.

That's wild, this 2 year old video just randomly showed up in my YouTube feed the other day. Kinda interesting to see how the algorithm just seems to randomly pick a video to start recommending to people.

Either way, glad this guy's story is getting to be seen by more people!

That's why you use a fake return address that doesn't exist. Allowing your product to get into real people's hands was just asking for trouble.

Spot-on. I knew what this was before I clicked it.

The poll was improperly conducted and way too short for users to adequately find in time. This announcement is the first I'm hearing about this discussion or poll at all.

I think this might be jumping the gun. Also, it's poor form, imo, to change the focus of a community after it's been established. It would make more sense to create /c/lemmyfossapps or something similar. Taking a broadly-focused community and narrowing it down after people have already joined feels wrong.

Those are my two cents, since I never got a chance to respond to the poll, which allegedly already had a pretty narrow margin.

This will happen as long as people keep treating crypto as an investment instead of what it was actually designed to be; a currency.

Edit: Within 28 mins I’ve got -9 votes and nothing to answer. Think it proves my point.

The fact that you think there is a "point" to be made when you're supposed to be the one asking a question and trying to learn, shows us that you had ill intent from the start. You told on yourself with this one.

Around the house, I use these super cheap stretch bands I found on Amazon from one of those random Chinese sellers that changes names every week. It was $10 for a pack of 3. I didn't expect them to be decent quality, but I've been pleasantly surprised that none of them have broken or rattle or anything even after about a year of use.

Whenever I go out or work out, I put on the stock silicone strap. I'd like to pick up some more at some point; the quick-release mechanism is really well-done and makes changing bands on the fly super fast and easy, and I'd love to have more options for different scenarios. I just wish the official bands weren't so pricey.

I think you've mistaken Putin's motive. It takes 2 weeks for the body to dissolve in their special sauce.

OPs always have the worst takes.

Except you, you seem alright, OP.

I generally use the body text field for a snippet of the page I'm linking to, usually a paragraph or two that I felt were important takeaways from the article (so that people who generally only skim headlines may still see something useful from the article).

If I'm linking to an article, I personally don't like putting my own opinion in the OP, itself. I'd rather it be a top-level comment, instead, as it feels like grandstanding on somebody else's work when it's in the OP body.

A brush fire that began burning at a ranch Thursday afternoon has now grown to scorch 150 acres and is 10% contained as of just before 5 p.m.

The Llano County Office of Emergency Management posted on its Facebook page that at least 10 agencies are now responding to the fire located near East Highway 71 and County Road 307. Crews also have CR 307 shut down right now due to the ongoing response.

By 6 p.m., there were nearly 20 agencies responding to the fire, including 13 volunteer fire departments.

Initially, first responders told KXAN the fire began on a ranch property. As of 2 p.m., the growing fire caused no evacuations.

Air support from the Texas Forest Service is currently assisting with the fire, according to the Llano County Office of Emergency Management.

At last check, there are no structures currently in danger, according to Llano officials.

As of July 10, Llano County had a burn ban in place.

On Thursday, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered an additional 30 Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to Austin, according to a spokesperson with DPS.

The order comes one day after the City of Austin said it would be suspending the partnership between the Austin Police Department and DPS.

The additional troopers would bring the total number to 130, not including the troopers that work the Capitol.

DPS said overall, there would be 80 of the original troopers that began patrolling at the beginning of the partnership, the 20 Criminal Investigations Division officers that were also deployed as part of the partnership, and now the new 30 troopers.

"I know you can fight, but can you hold territory?"

Is anyone else unable to view /m/kbinmeta/newest? It's throwing me the "We are working on resolving the issues" error. Not sure if it's related to the stability issues I've been seeing today or not. But I can view /newest in other magazines just fine, though.

Austin's Interim City Manager Jesús Garza has suspended the Austin Police Department's (APD) partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), in consultation with Mayor Kirk Watson.

"From the start of this partnership with DPS, I said I wanted Austinites to feel safe and be safe. Recent events demonstrate we need to suspend the partnership with DPS. The safety of our community is a primary function of City government, and we must keep trying to get it right," Watson said in a statement. "This partnership was an innovative approach to address acute staffing shortages that were years in the making. However, any approach must be in sync with Austin values."

Just trying to understand how the microblog function works in Kbin. When it asks to select a magazine to post to, is that basically the same as adding a hashtag to a toot as if I were posting on a Mastodon instance?

Also, if I post a microblog to a remote community (such as to a lemmy.world community), how does that show up on LemmyWorld? Also, how does that show up on a Mastodon instance?

Notes: The vulnerability appears to be with Lemmy software, and other instances are possibly vulnerable until the Lemmy devs resolve it, however Lemmy.World has implemented their own fix in the meantime. It has not yet been ruled out if non-admin users have had their tokens compromised, but all accounts should be forced to manually log in again, as a preventative measure.

I was looking at a comment I left earlier today (several hours earlier) and realized I made a typo, and went to edit it. I'm used to Reddit putting a little asterisk next to the comment's timestamp to indicate that it was edited, but I'm not seeing anything like this on Kbin. Is this something that's tracked somewhere for users to see, or possibly something that we might see get added in as a feature in the future?

If promoting a magazine you created isn't allowed, feel free to remove this, or I will also gladly delete it. There's no real rules in this mag, but it's kinda slimy to self-promote, so I get it if people don't want this here.

For those interested, though, I just made /m/WFH, as a place to discuss working from home. Not a place for job postings (only because I worry about the potential for spam), but more of a community for those of us already doing remote work. Tips, tricks, household gadgets to help with your workspace, etc. I'd love to hear from my fellow hermits! :)

I know witch house isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I came across this track today that I really enjoyed.

Hey there, I wasn't familiar with this community before, but looking around right now. Are posts here meant to be more in the essay format that I'm seeing so far? The longer-form discussion prompt seems like a really interesting idea, if that's what this is all about.
