Can’t believe I didn’t jump on this right when it came out, this is outstanding.

Side note: album art is by the same artist as Carnosus - Visions of Infinihility, which is why it looks a little extremely similar.

Honorable mention, maybe straddles tech death and deathcore but it’s an absolute jam: Ben’s Raincoat - Radiant Cliffs

Somehow missed posting anything about this album when it came out on 6.12 - classically regarded as deathcore, but they've been migrating in a death metal direction for the last 2-3 albums, and this one's a slapper for sure (definitely streamed it a good number of times on my phone while my desktop's been out of commission)

I'm partway back, time to catch up on the new releases backlog! As I've done previously, I'm still saying "this week" just for searchability reasons, don't @ me

Eyyyy excellent celebration

Certified brain melter, thanks for posting! This is old enough that I might not have bumped into it, glad for the exposure

Not dead! I know I’m down to only a post a week, and now even that is a couple weeks behind. I was away on vacation, and now that I’m back, I’m having computer issues. I’m excited to catch up on everything I’ve missed, so feel free (as always) to post goodies. I’m aware of a few real brain-melters already, but I know there’s more out there.

Oh interesting! I hadn’t followed closely enough to catch the single, I’ll have to revisit. I agree though: Eschaton was my favorite album of the week

Edit: opps forgot RoN was in the same week. That takes it, although it’s not as pure tech as Eschaton

It’s growing on me too!

Enjoy! That was my favorite this week

tbh I almost slept on it because I haven't listened to them since I was first exploring the world of death metal (including black metal, grindcore, etc.), and stumbled into Demigod, but ffs the title track slapppps, very catchy

[–] Choco617@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Totally. To be honest, I keep coming back to about half of these, especially Parthian

I always like Angry Metal Guy’s reviews (not sure how independent this is, if the label sends a free copy and that incurs bias or whatever, you can check and decide). I also see 2 reviews from regular folks on Encyclopaedia Metallum. I don’t typically get too into reviews, so I don’t have much more to share, but I do also see No Clean Singing has a review up.

Ooh sweet, I didn’t know about the making-ofs, I’ll have to check them out. Gammageddon and Nuklearth are definitely in regular rotation on my stereo, I just need a little more time with this one to get to know it

Neither had I! Exposure has been the best part of doing this pretty thorough review every week (at least whatever I can find on Encyclopaedia Metallum). Afflicta in particular is tremendous.

TIL! Thanks for the factoid: my dogs have definitely gotten covered in burdock plenty of times too, maybe I should invent something about it
