How many knives can a disaffected teen carry/throw per minute?

I wouldn't seek to downplay how much damage a sufficiently motivated individual with a knife can do in a short space of time, but it is certainly orders of magnitude lower than a firearm in most cases.

I didn't call her bluff, so who's to say.

It's comparatively low, but you take about the level of crime you have I guess, rather than crime you could have. I don't hold much hope for whatever bizarre Frankenstein's government is next in charge of the country, but we'll have to cross that channel when we come to it.

And before anyone says it, the only person to menace me with a knife has been my partner... and I think she was joking.

We've been pretty up ourselves about it though, a blank flag waving on the moon will be cold comfort for the burning remains of our civilisation. I could imagine this being the inevitable end to an intelligent species, smart enough to destroy itself but dumb enough to destroy itself.

Great. So everyone will just continue dying or being in fear of dying in mass shootings, regular shootings, and more. This will continue for the rest of time because one side is scared of making a positive change to the situation.

Public opinion does not equal policy, and what you're effectively saying is that there is no negotiation possible. Moving an inch could lose you a foot, so no movement is possible.

Don't pretend that it is both sides who refuse to "negotiate", when one side views any change at all as unacceptable compromise.

No shit...? The only reason that Saudi Arabia isn't a stretch of glass is because they were providing oil whilst Iraq was making moves to cut it off. Sate your bloodlust and destroy a regional inconvenience at the same time? That's a freebie.

A sword is a noble's weapon and you will be killed for so much as touching it.

With respect, that's bullshit. Common sense gun reform is on the table almost monthly, after every single mass shooting pretty much... which happen with great regularity. The simplest of measures is treated like a slippery slope to full bans and so nothing at all is allowed to progress. From the outside looking in, a nationwide firearms ban is a bogeyman used to prevent anything happening at all.

We're free to do all the great, innovative things we could want! But mostly the sneakiest, underhanded, previously illegal shit we want...

We really have sacrificed our species atop the fire of industry.

Living in the UK, I have never seen an actual firearm outside of specialist police and museums. Nor has that presented any problems. shrug
