The response takes a couple of seconds, since the info is broadcasted from the device to the HID interface at random intervals (we are not doing any IOCTL stuff).

Any thoughts on making it a pollable daemon that's always listening for that info?

"Always available" data + the ability to shut things down would eliminate my personal need for NUT.

They say their monthly op-ex is $5500.

Our monthly operational expenditure (op-ex), which includes power, cooling, energy, and remote hands (although we seldom use this service), is now approximately $5,500.

I thought I was the only one.

I had three 14tb drives fail within two weeks of each other. Two of them made horrible clicks and failed their SMART checks. The other I had to unplug to get my computer to boot.

I assumed it was my raid/passthrough card or cables doing something weird (eBay so you never know) but after reading some of the anecdotes here, I'm not so sure.

To make things even better - I submitted that RMA in August and I'm still waiting on the replacements because "the warehouse is backordered."
