Is being a good tactician and being a genocidal, totalitarian extremist an oil and water situation?

He can be both.

Lemmy will have a responsibility to thousands of users, only Lemmy is a federation. People here will come to agreements on various topics and political issues and it won't take long before the community is split on one.

Who calls the shots when everyone has equal say? That's when groups and hate start.

I'm not saying everyone needs to agree politically. It's that on a long enough timeline, you'll either be here in agreement or disdain over the political climate chosen by Lemmy together.

Anything that takes social media out of the power of greedy corporations is an A+ in my book.

I just collect them like candy. Oh, another tech board? Added.

I don't particularly care which community a post comes from. Subbing for me is so I am made aware of their posts. I honestly don't care where it was posted.

Thank fuck. I thought Lemmy was some ultra militant leftist hellhole before the shift.

I don't like extreme radical left any more than extreme radical right.

Fuck Che Guevara. Read a book.

Oh, the old place? Heard it's running full steam ahead and that /r/conservative was going to take over the place.

So, the usual, apparently.

I mean... the discussion is reddit, isn't it?

If I wanted to scroll mindlessly through the flea market of the internet, I'd open Mastodon. I often do, but, reddit is, er... was the community. The community is reddit. The memes, the jokes, the little phrases. They don't own any of that.

I'm about utility. Online social engagement is a need. People who can't connect need a way to connect. This is a public utility, a social service. It needs to be streamlined, free, and as open as possible to anyone who wishes to participate.

It is a human right to connect. We shouldn't hide it beind any paywall, ad, company, entity or outside will. People have a right to enter the room, speak and listen without being attacked by anything.
