I worked for a small earmold company that made hearing aids and plugs. The PC I used had zero security. I decked it out with every possible imaginable tool to make my job easier, even had it where I could vpn in and do work from home, and while I didn't utilize this feature, the ceo's son did after I told him about it for a few weeks after I quit.

Our HR manager constantly asked for email counts each day, so I automated a spreadsheet for her. I set a webcam up in an office with a laser engraver so I knew when the staff would put molds down for engraving without being in the room. I had syncthing cloning directories and a virtual desktop. I'd often model blender models on lunch and sync them back to my nas. Sometimes I'd make custom things for the company, then 3D print them and bring them in the next day.

I had waaaasay too much power, though. I could go pick through the company samba server, look at anything, potentially delete everything. They kept backups on dated copies made on external drives and deleted everything four years old.

I'm using sync until infinity beta goes public, at least.

edit: and I'm not longer using Sync! 😊

Ubuntu, no encryption, select boot to desktop by default when the system installs.

Like, really?

Judging by the content of the last few years, I would've guessed they'd been on strike a lot longer.

They used to practically run the place, is why they're seething so damn hard.

Before the API comedown, the entire All page on most instances was their horseshit.

Thank you all for freeing us from Reddit (and Mastodon).

Good for planning your stock buys. Heard the Activision/blizzard deal went through.

That's either a sinking ship or a rising submarine, but considering Microsoft's recent track record with gaming, I'm not touching it any more than my mutual fund lightly touches it.

It was one of those "haha" then "oh... man." kinda thoughts.

Imagine a federated YouTube that load-balances server to server and every single individual instance was utilized for data storage and playback depending on the location of the viewer.

Everyone pitches in, servers have stats that can be looked up.

Imagine it.

Careful, they'll shit BRICS if you keep up those kinds of comments. Just need to defederate and move on, leave them with the other idiots like the libertarians and flat earthers.

A large retail shipping outlet celebrates a yearly reminder of that one time a character from a massively marketed toy line died.

Not on Linux, no. I set up a dual boot with Windows 10 last night just so I could enjoy my $300 purchase while I tinker with the Linux side of things.

So far... I've enjoyed controlling some BeamNG but some combination of either Oversteer or my settings kept nerfing the hell out of my force feedback. I don't believe I have FF on Linux at the moment. I've only experienced it on my Windows side.

Assetto runs!!!...but. big but. A lot of cars don't load in. They just hang on the loading menu and I have to kill the program to get back to desktop. What's odd is that it can sometimes not even matter what car. It might load one once then not again, or not at all then load all the sudden. No matter how long I wait, it sits and I don't even have mods installed. If there was some consistency to the problem, I might be able to troubleshoot but the same car that works one load-in will be the same car that doesn't load the next. I don't get it.
