Thank you for posting here!

It's okay, I haven't advertised yet, I was curious to see how many people there would be without posting to !communitypromo@lemmy.ca

Also it's quite late in Europe

On top of that, they also present feature https://european-alternatives.eu/ on their pinned post:

I would say so. Easy for guests to bring some friends, so everyone can meet new people

A better synchronization mechanism has been implemented in the current versions of Lemmy, but Lemmy.world still has to update.

The mods also complained about be posting about those posts here:

Those mods seems to be power tripping and want to only promote their website (https://www.goeuropean.org/), which they seem a bit adamant on promoting (https://old.reddit.com/r/BuyFromEU/comments/1j85af8/a_comprehensive_guide_how_to_rbuyfromeu/), ignoring other alternatives like https://buy-european.net/

See some issue between them and the /r/Buy_European mod: https://old.reddit.com/r/Buy_European/comments/1j6jeg3/the_other_buyeuropean_sub_is_apparently_now/

The !buyeuropean@feddit.uk community only has @buyeuropean@feddit.org as a mod, but they are literally the last mod in the power order, they havent' created the community or anything.

There have been several occurrences of /r/BuyFromEU mods removing posts promoting Lemmy as they become too popular, such as this one: https://lemm.ee/post/57883093

Their sidebar still only shows links to their own social media:

Their website only points to Reddit: https://www.goeuropean.org/

https://buy-european.net/ points to Lemmy in the footer, and even created a dedicated blog post:

https://buy-european.net/post/lemmy-a-decentralized-community-for-the-buy-european-movement

Edit: for full transparency, I'm also investigating https://buy-european.net/pr/pr-01.pdf

Also, feel free to comment under each of my posts to promote !asklemmy@lemmy.world or !asklemmy@lemmy.ml , I wouldn't mind.

And definitely not ban people over it.

Coming back to

Are those others providing most of the content on one topic for the whole platform?

[–] Blaze@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 5 months ago

Are you a mod to “ask Lemmy”? No? This is why you created alternative community to it?

I'm not a mod on

And a lot of other communities where I regularly post

Do you see me creating communities alternative to those?

tl;dr:

  • likely three Pixel 9 models: one standard Pixel 9 and two Pixel 9 Pro versions (6.7 inch and 6.3 inch screen);
  • leaked renders (see this thread);
  • the standard version will now probably have a telephoto lens too;
  • Tensor G4 chip;
  • Android 15.

I would describe The Kitchen as pre-cyberpunk or cyberpunk-lite. It's very close to taking place in a cyberpunk world, but set maybe 5-10 years before the world truly turns cyberpunk.

The main character lives in a slum in London. That slum is 100% a cyberpunk setting. Futuristic advertisements everywhere, horrible poverty, yet access to various scifi technology. However, as soon as the main character leaves the slum, it's only a near-future world. The main character has an entry-level position and is saving money to afford a one-bedroom apartment and leave the slum. The very fact that an entry-level position can allow for vertical social mobility tells me this isn't quite a cyberpunk world.

The plot of the movie is this guy, who has been taught repeatedly his entire life to only look out for himself, learns an old acquaintance has died. That acquaintance has left behind a son who is now all alone. So he's torn between not wanting the kid to be alone while also not truly wanting to trust or protect this kid. You'd think over the course of the movie he'd learn to love the kid and then there'd be this big moment of self-sacrifice at the end, but that isn't where the movie goes.

If anything, this movie feels more "slice of life" because very few plot threads are even resolved. If this was an extended pilot to a new series I'd be interested in watching more. But having the movie end where it does just leaves me wondering why I even bothered watching it. I'm not a fan of "slice of life" stories though so that probably says more about me than the movie. Overall, the movie is good, I just wish it had a better-defined beginning, middle, and end.

You can watch it now on Netflix.

Off topic, but ownership is a hot topic here, right?

iFixit has petitioned the FTC to write standardized rules for right to repair. A federal ruling on what companies must do to respect your stuff. Your chance to inform policy is here.

Maybe you're thinking, "what difference can I make?" However, the FTC must read all comments that aren't marked as spam or copypasta. Now is your time. The request for comment period ends February 2nd, 2024.

There are less than 6 days left to make your voice heard. Tell the FTC what you think. Let them know about the hardships you've faced trying to fix your stuff. Bring up your concerns about the difficulty in repairing you phone or laptop. Rant about "you'll own nothing," if you like. They want to hear from you and they need ammunition to make the ruling stick.

Your voice matters. Make a difference, the chance comes very rarely. I shot my shot, now what about you?

Comment on Your Right to Repair.
