If possible, I'm sure this community would love reading a blog post about exactly this.

Myself, I'm in uni and don't really have time to make new projects in rust and would greatly appreciate to read what you have to say about this :)

Peanits gallery is a great name actually

I will also recommend, lately I've been playing an hour here and there because I've gotten busy and the game is still fun and absolutely gorgeous. Can't recommend enough :)

I'm using linux mint, which is beginner friendly. It doesn't have automatic updates as default.

No, i want an easy way to navigate between unopened pdf files within the same directory

Will remember this as this might be close enough in case other solutions won't do

Looks perfect to my use case, will try it out, thanks :)

Replied to schnurrito with the answer. In short, i want to view files in a directory as one would view photos in a gallery, as I can't always tell beforehand which file is relevant to me and I'd like to be able to move quickly between files, instead of opening many files and then closing the irrelevant ones.

That's pretty close to what I'd be looking for, yes, a problem I'm having with common pdf viewers is that I'd need to open the files I'd want to read from beforehand, instead of just passing to the next file like i would in a gallery.

This requires that I'd know which files are relevant to me before reading said files.

That said, my use case does sound unique so I'm not surprised it's hard to figure out what im looking for :)

I've been having a hard time looking for a pdf viewer that has a specific feature, and have been meaning to ask for a good enough one to use instead.

The feature i was looking for is viewing a directory of files at once without having to open multiple files at once and navigate from tabs, sort of like a file explorer and a pdf viewer in one, which might be a lot to ask.

What I'm asking for right now is what software would you use if you needed to read plenty of pdf files from the same source?

If you don't have anything specific that solves this, I'd still like to know if there is a "good enough" pdf viewer, as the browser doesn't feel like a good enough solution for my problem.

  • Note that i do not need to edit the files, just view them.

It's absolutely insulting and infuriating and i want to grab them and slap them more than a couple tomes.

I'm first year into university, studying software engineering, and sometimes i like doing homework with friends, because calculus and linear algebra are hard on my brain and i specifically went to uni to understand the hard parts.

Not once, not twice, have i asked for help with something from a friend, only for them to just open the dumbass chatbot, asking it how to solve the question, and just believing in the answer like it's the moses coming down with the commandments, and then giving me the same explanation, full of orgasmic enthusiasm until i go "applying that theorem in the second step is invalid" or "this contradicts an earlier conclusion", and then they shut their fucking brains off, tell monsieur shitbot his mistake, and again, explain to me like I'm a child (I'd say mansplaining because honest to god it looked and sounded the same but I'm also a man, so.. ) word for word the bot output.

This doesn't stop at 3 or 4 times, i could only wish, sometime i got curious and burnt an hour like that with the same guy, on the same question, on the same prompt streak.

Like after the 7th time they don't understand that they are in more trouble than me and still talk like they have a phd.

So I'll sum up:

  • they turn off their brain
  • they make bot think for them
  • they believe bot like gospel
  • they swear bot knows best
  • they're shown it does not know shit
  • "just one more prompt bro i swear bro please one more time bro i swear bro Claude knows how to solve calculus bro it has LaTeX bro so it probably knows bro please bro one more prompt bro-"

Integrals are an expression that basically has an opening symbol, and an operation that is written at the end of it that is used also as a closing symbol, looks kinda like:$ {some function of x} dx.

The person basically said "the dx part can be written at the start also, and that would make my so mad :3": $ dx {some function of x}.

This gets their so mad because understandably this makes the notation non-standard and harder to read, also you'd have to use parentheses if the expression doesn't just end at the function.

Note: dollar used instead of integral symbol

All boomer, no humor

I've set up an old laptop with Linux mint some months ago, and while the laptop's speed is fine when there are no disk write, even a very small write can cause other applications to hang until it is done, and i can also tell because i have an IO led so whenever it is on i know that i can't really interact with stuff whenever it's on.

SMART status doesn't seem to report anything, (tested some weeks ago, but issue was always present), but i'm willing to test again and show screenshots.

I'll show some maybe relevant information, note that my Linux fs is mounted on sda7.

some forums online suggested looking at /etc/fstab:

/etc/fstab

If there is anything else that is relevant, I'd like to know, and thanks for any help.

Got an old laptop from a friend I'd like to rejuvenate, the plan is to set up a light distro so it wouldn't be as slow as it is right now with windows 10.

Now, I'm aware windows updates can fuck up a dual boot system, so i have a few questions about how to minimize the threat of that happening.

What i think of doing is running a few scans to check the disk, then setting up Linux Mint, because it is beginner friendly, and (relatively) light weight.

What I'd need help with is trusted guides and also tips for setting up dual booting, I'm sure I'll need to do disk partitioning and I've done that before but I'd still want to make sure I'm doing it correctly.

Any help would be welcome.

Been in a relationship for a year, since early in the relationship my partner has been suffering with chronic back pain. This pain is almost always present, this causes breakdowns multiple times a week, especially on weekends.

I've been having a hard time helping her manage her pain and being there for her, it reoccures so much that I'm starting to feel myself becoming apathetic towards her, and sometimes outright cold.

I haven't really been getting a chance to rest from being emotionally available, or even socially available (even though life circumstance already caused me to basically halt all social life). And i haven't really had a weekend this past months that i could use to rest instead of being on call and hearing her cry most of the day.

I feel like I'm pouring from an empty cup and that I don't have any other choice, otherwise I'd be leaving her to deal with it herself.

It feels like it's going to be the end of our relationship, any advice?

p.s. we're a man-woman relationship, young adults, both of us not really experienced in relationships, if that's any help.

Been 2 months since the update but I don't see any news about code editor support for the new syntax.

This kind of makes sense, i don't expect code editor support to pop up so fast, but i was at least hoping to hear some news about it.

The PEP in question: PEP 695
