Meanwhile I grew up with a Collie, he used to always dream of little sheep. Good boy

Collies get my vote

Wow! I hadn't seen that one coming. Still, I guess it makes sense. I've only ordered a couple of things from there, but it seems to be mostly random "marketplace" sellers on there, which makes it basically just low quality, Australian, Amazon

Most controversial DT in c/Melbourne history? Lol

I don't care too much, but let's get back to our usual more upbeat antics. I'll start by sharing magpie:

It was staring at us while we were barbecuing on Sunday. Everybody was sure it was going to try and swoop some bread or a snag, but it just sat there, staring, for an uncomfortably long time. Felt a little bad ngl, but if I feel wildlife, I'd rather feed them something more nutritious than home brand white bread

Yeah, that's a fair point, and probably the only group of people I do have some sympathy for. And the people being held in those illegal immigration detention centre things, I imagine they'll have an even tougher time of it than they currently do

Gotta remember that people in the military are still people. They're affected by his shit, too

All of their "training" does mean they would likely need to become considerably more pissed off in order to actually do anything, but it's still a possibility at the end of the day

Also, with enough people, you can defeat anyone. 330m people in America, only 2 million of those are in the military. Maybe throw in another 2 million for police and secret service people. Seems easily doable

Honestly, I don't really have much sympathy or pity for the vast majority of America at the moment. I do feel a bit bad for Mexico, Canada, and South America, I reckon they'll have a pretty tough time of it, and Mexico is certainly going to be demonized at every turn for the next ~4 years at minimum. But as for the people within America, they did choose this. They had the option to vote for the other candidate without fear of persecution or reprisal. I'd certainly have pity if he just marched in, seized control of the country, and started executing his opponents

Also, after what seems like every American on the internet since the advent of the internet has taken every opportunity to bang their chest and yell about how great America is like some sort of political gorilla, I must admit I will be having a chuckle as their country degrades even further and all the idiots that either couldn't be arsed going and voting, or actively voted for him begin to suffer more and more

(Plus, they've so staunchly defended their right to own firearms for so long now, it's not like they're defenseless lol. If half the bloody country owns a gun, I don't see what some walls and a couple dozen people in suits are going to be able to do about a large scale rebellion 🤷‍♂️)

All good SC, I appreciate the advice anyway!

I've actually just noticed that they've marked my gas account as "(closed)". I don't really know what that means or why. They've issued my first gas bill, which I haven't paid yet, but isn't due for a few weeks, but it makes it sound like they've disconnected me, which I don't see a reason for (and they also haven't - I still have gas)

Anyway, hopefully I'll find out what's happening soon

I generally like laughing at it and saying "typical American". That said, my Lemmy has been a lot nicer since I added these words to my third party apps blocklist:

And my third party app for reddit never actually stopped working. Something to do with being a mod apparently. So I just put the same words in over there and it's a lot nicer!

Assessments knocked out. 3 of them are 13 hours late, but oh well. I had to read through a bunch of fictitious workplace policies, which just wasn't happening last night

I've still got some time and motivation, so I'm gonna try and get a little ahead on a couple of things

[–] Baku@aussie.zone 3 points 6 months ago

Maybe?

I sent them an email to see why it's being read so frequently. Apparently they're meant to be read weekly

I saw him walking down the street and checking everybody else's though, so it doesn't seem to just be me

Random Q: how often do gas meter readers generally read?

They've been coming weekly to read my meter, and it just seems a little strange that they check so often, especially considering my billing period is monthly (or at least that's what they said. They actually seem to issue my bills every 26 days, which is an odd frequency but eh)

Pet peeve:

  • the vast majority of people

Adored thing:

  • a very limited subset of people

I live in a set of flats in Melbourne. Not inner city, but not that far out of it. My flat is semi detached, and I share a wall with one neighbour. The other neighbours has a freestanding house. All the other flats on this block are eligible to request the upgrade to FTTP, except mine.

When I entered my address into the FTTP upgrade page, it said that I can't be upgraded under this program, but may eligible under and MDU upgrade for strata managed buildings. But the thing is, neither mine nor any of the other flats actually have a strata.

I'm not sure whether they've made a mistake and just assumed that I have a strata, or they're being difficult about it for some reason. In either case, it's weird that they would assume I am the only flat on the block that's in a strata. My FTTC isn't actually that bad, it's been relatively stable, and I am able to get the full 100mbps down I pay for. But I do quite often fully saturate my connection.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions? I do only rent, so I could maybe badger the property manager or landlord to sort it out themselves. But they're older and obviously don't really have any reason to care about the internet speeds I can receive.

Or is it probably just going to be a waiting game until they hopefully figure themselves out? I would've just emailed them and asked, but I found it quite difficult to actually find a phone number or email, as they really want to push all contact to be done via an RSP, who I did try, but they just seemed really confused and told me they don't offer FTTP upgrades and I'd need to look elsewhere.

The Sunbury line has shut down for maintenance, so I guess they've stabled a couple of HCMTs on the empty platforms
