Workers in the DPRK are allowed to leave the country for work? Clearly this is a slavery plot. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/why-does-secretive-north-korea-have-no-problem-sending-workers-overseas/ar-BB1j002Z

Edit: I have been corrected on something I misread earlier, thanks comrades!

#2 can also be done to an extent https://hexbear.net/post/1419643

That's my plan for the long run.

Got a coworker openly talking about trying to use the union contract to get me fired so they can take my job. Very cool, very good work environment to be in. Love to be the subject of office gossip.

Intentionally "networking" sounds absolutely miserable, but slowly picking up contacts in your career as you work different companies is worth it. I've never actively sought out a network or gone to any events or conferences, but now I just kinda know dozens of people in my field, and whenever I get a new job I'll already know a few people there. Or I'll come to an interview and be surprised that one of the people across the table used to work with me a couple years ago and they'll see me as the safe bet to hire. Or someone will switch agencies and ask me if I want a recommendation to come work with them.

It just feels like an inevitable result of working in the same career for long enough. It started with me getting a shitty entry level job through dumb luck without a network and sticking with it, though.

Went down a wikipedia rabbit hole and found out there is a town named after Alexei Stakhanov.

Ukraine renamed the city 'Kadiivka' in 2016, and refers to the city by this name, however Ukraine has not controlled the city since early 2014.[2][3][4]

Lol

My Steam name had hanzi in it during my first startup, and the servers still have a bug that won't update names. So I can't play cross-platform with my PS5 friends, and also every now and then I get kicked from lobbies or even get a little misdirected racism over vc.

But one time I played with a group of Russian guys who kept talking amongst themselves until one said "你好(Babs)" and we had a short conversation in what was obviously neither of our primary language. That was a fun night.

The details are all wrong, but the broad strokes are very Portland. Like, I know people who have little facets of everything involved in this story.

But yeah the burgers and insistence on calling it the MAX (instead of just trimet) made it clear it was a bit real quickly.

Completely hypothetical situation:

  • a workplace has a collective bargaining agreement saying jobs should go to internal applicants if one applies and is qualified.
  • an outsider gets hired because they are the most qualified for the position (presumably internals were interviewed and turned down).
  • an internal applicant files a grievance with the union, and their desired remedy is to take the job back from the new hire.

Has anyone heard of a similar example? Is the new hire in any real danger here? Is "wrongful hiring" a thing that could be used to get someone fired, months into their job? Aside from the fact that she only knows about this because the other person is openly gossiping about it to everyone?

I got some of those big poofy knickerbocker pants and my dysphoria about having skinny hips doesn't stand a chance! I look so cool now. transshork-happy

nsfw and dysphoriaBut I'm also dealing with medical issues that are leaving me feel like an inadequate girlfriend. Bottom dysphoria got me feeling like a mermaid, except the top half is a fish and the bottom half is a fish and I'm just a big floppy fish. Bf has been very understanding but it still really sucks and I need to find a doctor. transshork-sad

Two articles popped up on my work computer's mainpage (my gauge of normie news)

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/25/world/europe/ukraine-war-toll-zelensky.html - Ukraine has lost 31,000 soldiers over the two years of war.

https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-losses-avdiivka-exceed-10-year-soviet-afghan-war-isw-2024-2 - Russia has lost 47,000 soldiers in Avdeyevka alone.
