Trade Republic

App's pretty meh and it's generally pretty meh but it's dirt cheap. 1€ per transaction is amazing when all I really do is passive investing.

They did notify me that they're going to delete my personal data when I hadn't followed up on my registrations for a few months which suggests they take data privacy serious and is the reason I ultimately went with them. Scalable Capital (another "cheap" neo-broker who I started the signup process with at about the same time) OTOH hasn't sent a word tome to this day; I should send a GDPR request soon.

Why do they need to be part of your Tailnet? I usually just share a single machine.

In the meantime (how many years did it take Discord to update their electron to a not-quite-as-ancient version the last time?), one thing I'd like to see here would be the option to allow listening to global keypresses for certain apps. Yes, that makes security slightly worse I guess but I'd rather have all the other benefits of Wayland working for me while this one isn't working yet.

I'd downvote that comment too. It adds nothing to the discussion and is deliberately confrontative and superficial.

Facts are not subject to copyright.

Hahaha, tell that to the textbook industry.

There could come a point where the only way to sustainably host a lemmy instance would require some sort of commercialisation. Since hosts are the people who actually decide what users get served, they are in control.

Of course you can always fork the software but someone still needs to host that fork. If the popular instances all had ads or other malware to sustain themselves financially and alternative instances without malware existed, everyone would flock to those alternative instances. If those alternative instances couldn't find a way to fund that load, they'd simply die.

the more users an instance has, the more donations it will get.

I don't see this as a given. I also don't see it as a given that donations and costs would rise equally.

The problems aren't as pronounced yet because Lemmy as a whole is, in social media network terms, very small (3 orders of magnitude difference compared to the incumbents). If growth continues, the point will certainly come where we will outgrow the size that can be reasonably funded by nerd donations.

Note that there isn't really a way to actually delete your content. You gave Reddit an irrevocable license to it.

It is the endavourOS of NixOS.

However, making NixOS more user friendly is a lot more work than simply offering a default config. Most of the work/challenge lies in the GUI NixOS configuration editor.

And the best part is: When you're done trying it out and like your setup in the vm, you can simply copy your configuration.nix over to the real machine ;)
