Unfortunately the best way to raise the sea levels is by using the oil from the straight itself, so we’re kind of at an impasse here

I don’t have the link with me now, but the Author’s explanation and apology for how this happened is a worthwhile read. This seems to have been a straight up mistake.
Still ironic, but I really don’t get the impression that there’s anything hypocritical or malevolent going on here at all.
This is even funnier considering the question of if hawking radiation allows information to leave a black hole or not
