Honestly, with the way Mexicos leadership/politics and economy is heading, it's positioned to be a decent power, and potentially be a more desirable location to live than the US sometime in the next century. Big fan of AMLO and hope he is setting them on a good trend. It's probably only a matter of time before the US intervenes and makes sure they don't go too far left though, so maybe I shouldn't get my hopes up.

This and Homage are his two best imo. His fiction is a little too on the nose and heavy handed.

It's literally the most basic and textbook form of allegory you can find in literature. There's absolutely no depth to it at all.

Which is true in real life too so I don't see the issue. Think of climate activists and how they're treated in the US. Or those supporting socialist policies like right to housing or food. They are treated as an absolute joke, just for wanting to do the right thing at the expense of those in power.

If I had to pick a character who does the right thing more often than anyone, it's probably Hermione.

Ok there's a bit here I disagree with.

  1. I feel like one of the messages I got out of HP is that chosen family means more than given family. Such as when Harry gets sweater from Mrs Weasley and nothing from Dursleys

  2. Just because slavery exists in the story, doesn't mean it's treated positively. There's an entire revolutionary movement for them in one of the books and Hermione is active in it. And Hermione is often a pretty safe moral compass.

  3. No defense of the Goblins, this one is pretty bad.

  4. Again, just because this idea exists doesn't mean it's supported. In fact, the bad guys are the ones always supporting it so it's pretty clearly a villainous idea.

Your arguments remind me of the illiterate folk who claim that Lolita supports pedophilia when the opposite is true. Just because something is present in a story doesn't mean it's presented as a good thing, or something worth supporting.

For the record, I do not support JKR and kind of wish HP would fade into obscurity, even if it was a defining moment of my childhood/generation.

Actually I think I'm the opposite. I hate encumbrance more when it's massive. When I played survival mode in Fallout NV, I found it so much more fun to only pick up essential items. I would commonly pick up water bottles and food instead of valuable weapons or ammo. I was usually way under my low encumbrance because I had a mindset switch to only pick up stuff that will allow me to survive the desert.

I predicted this before the season and feel validated in saying it now after the week one games.

Despite losing 5 starters due to gambling, ISU will be far better than last year and make a bowl game. We have a new offensive line coach and I think it will make all the difference in our offense. Unfortunately due to how much of a shit show El Assico is, we won't really know how good ISU is until conference play starts. By recruiting metrics this is the most talented team in team history. If they are properly coached they will be good.

TCU will finish bottom half this year. They're basically an entirely different team than last year. They also have Kendall Briles on staff so I will cheer for them to go 0-12 which sucks because they used to be one of my favorite teams and fan bases in the conference.

I still think TTU is legit this year, and the loss to Wyo doesn't change that. Wyo might be a solid 10 win team.

It is when you start assuming non-bigots are bad people because of what they look like.

I think LSU and Clemson will be ranked by the end of the season and definitely one of the best 25 teams in the country. But there's absolutely zero reason to rank them now as 100% of the datapoints we have are them getting blown out. Ranking shouldn't be speculation.

Zero chance TCU will finish ranked, they'll finish bottom half on the Big 12 this year.

It's unfathomable to me that people are voting for TCU, Clemson, or LSU to be ranked. There's no justification for it.
