Hahaha. Fuck you, you magnificent bastard.

I appreciate the thought, but I've been around actual musicians, and I'm not that.

I have only the most rudimentary knowledge of music theory, have only ever written one song, which was terrible, and didn't actually end up teaching my kids ukulele.

These days I just fiddle about with my ukes on my couch. If I ever get over my inertia, I've been thinking of putting up some youtube clips of my covers, but don't hold your breath.

I call that show 'Aussie Muppets in Space'. They had some real cool sci-fi concepts in that show.

I've played guitar on and off since I was about 7, but I'm still amateurish at best. I got some lessons in my late teens from a co-worker that got me good enough to bash out chords in the church band. Played bass briefly in a band after quitting the church in the early nineties, but didn't really touch an instrument again until the divorce in '09. I've been playing ukulele since then after getting some cheap ones for my kids and learning it myself to teach them and fell in love with it. I used to go busking with it 5-6 days a week singing and playing covers when I was unemployed and broke, but that ended about ten years ago when I had to get a real job.

I've never considered myself a musician, though.

Maybe they'll finish it in 30 years when the actors have aged appropriately. ;)

It's a shame they killed off Alex in the show because the actor turned out to be a sex pest. Amos is up there as one of my favourite charachters in fiction, and Wes Chatham absolutely nailed it. Thomas Jane as Miller was also brilliant.

I devoured both the TV and the books (not including Leviathan Falls, which hadn't released yet) during Covid lockdown in 2020, and loved them both. It might be time to reread them.

I had the same feeling when I was reading the Harry Potter books. Mind you, I only read the first three before tiring of them.

Readers of this thread might enjoy Dominic Noble's Lost in Adaptation series.

The movie of 'A Scanner Darkly' is the only time anyone did a faithful adaptation of a Phillip K. Dick novel, I reckon. Blade Runner is too different from the novel to even count as an adaptation, really.

I also prefer the film of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen over the book, and Steve Coogan's 'adaptation' of The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy didn't even bother to try, and was more about trying to make an unadaptable novel into a movie. I recommend it. (I never did finish the book, but I do remember there being a curse that went on for a full page that was amazing.)

Going Postal was a pretty good adaptation, I thought. As was Hogfather. But no film adaptation could ever capture Prattchett's prose.

The Colour of Magic was ok, but sorely miscast both Rincewind and Twoflower, as much as I love David Jason and Sean Astin, they were wrong. Tim Curry almost made up for it though.

We don't talk about The Watch.

The Game Society Pimps have played a couple of them and made them pretty hilarious. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnMlh8dHsRY9E2yZEwqIk1RxF7bPNH8t_

I had this on VHS back in the day. My favourite DB concert film supporting my favourite DB album, 'Uh-Oh'. I've listened to that album probably over a thousand times and I'm still not tired of it. No exaggeration.

A bit of classic Byrne since he's been putting out some new stuff recently that hasn't really grabbed me as much. The bass on this is great.

I'd like to introduce you all to TISM (This Is Serious, Mum), one of the greatest satirical Aussie bands of the nineties. This is just a taste of their schtick.

There's always at least a couple of them within arm's reach from my couch.

Full livestream of some of the tightest funk you'll ever hear, with a cheeky sense of humour. This show is relentlessly good. Only two cameras, but the sound mix is great. I've watched this multiple times, and am watching it again on posting this.

I'm not sure how the community feels about posting full live shows here, but this is a good'n. Pick any point on the video and you'll probably be entertained. I was actually at this show, and I reckon I was the oldest person there.

Great track from a great album from this band from Toronto Canada. Edit: I got the wrong city.

Lovely little ditty from a local band. The Valley is in reference to Fortitude Valley, a popular nightspot, which, in classic Brisbane naming tradition, is at the top of a hill. See also : the George Bridges Tunnel.

There's no such thing as a typical DSO song. Every track is it's own thing, and they'll even switch styles mid-song. Amazing band. I encourage you to listen to their entire discograhpy. It's quite a ride.

I think there's something in this for all of us.
