Maybe converting the DOS blocks to ANSI blocks. But i don't know if this is feasible with your coding...

VMware is the best. Hope it is still free.

VirtualBox is open source and free. Works fine but not as well as VMware to me.

Both let you have a shared folder with the OS you are using.

Both very easy to use.
