I get antsy when I walk by any large dogs since I'm small and pretty weak. There's this one family in my neighborhood who has their tiny son walk their giant Malamute and whenever I walk by them I can't help but think, "If that dog decides to tear my throat out for some reason I am so incredibly fucked."
I'm not too enthused about dog ownership in general, even putting safety aside. It's exceedingly rare that I encounter dog owners who have given their dogs proper training and socialization as well as consistent physical and mental stimulation. I say this as someone that loves dogs but would never own one because I know I just don't have the mental bandwidth to give them the care and attention they deserve.

Only tangentially related, but I needed to vent about this.
I was in a group therapy session recently and when we were talking about self-advocacy in the workplace the psychologist leading it said with a completely straight face, "If there's one good thing that's come out of the pandemic, it's that you no longer have to worry about whether you can call in sick!" and it took every ounce of self control to not be like, motherfucker, do we live on the same planet? Someone else did push back a little about how they were forced to come into work after having a known exposure and showing symptoms at the absolute height of the pandemic (before home tests were even available), but the psychologist was like, "Well, you were working in a very competitive industry." Astonishingly out of touch.
Thank you for such a thorough introduction! This sounds like such an interesting approach to an operating system, especially given that it's something Bell Labs pursued. I'm actually wresting with some really annoying audio routing issues right now so the file abstraction for audio devices in particular sounds like a dream come true.
