At this point I'll support him if he sticks to intergalactic jihad against the capitalists.

No 40 meter long worms who can fuck you so good you lose your mind roaming around so I think we're safe.

and the way we schedule our lives around those times is also up to us.

This is some r/im14andthisisdeep shit

Tell my boss time is just a social construct and you might have an argument.

Or put another way if it's more important to you that sunlight time lines up with your arbitrarily imposed schedule is more important to you than the health & safety of your fellow Americans, you're "worse than dead" to us.

Except that it also fucks over everybody else who is on the same "arbitrarilly enforced schedule" (which happens to be about 90% of working adults) and this isnt me being selfish in spite of everybody else. Being able to conceivably leave the house outside of the 9 to 5 working schedule is pretty universally popular.

Seriously wtf are you arguing for. How is it being dark on my commute to work, after I drop off my kids at school and also being dark when I drive home from work "safer for evwrybody"

Kids come home from school between 3 and 4 even with extracurricular, literally rhe only people the eveinging time change affects is working adults.

It's very very telling that the bill doesn't force tik tok to change any of its supposedly unacceptable data harvesting capabilites, it just forces them to sell it to an American owned company so we can reap the benefits instead of them.

Unfortunately, as I've literally seen stated verbatim multiple times on reddit, people don't care if governments are controlling social media apps to scrape data for profit and control and moderate content as long as its the US government doing the scraping and controlling.

The fact the law doesn't change anything about how the app (or any other app) operates it just forces them to sell it to an American company so we can benefit instead of China should be enough to invalidate the bill.

Instead it's got wide support because China bad.

Lmao I don't think I've seem a more radicalizing comment in a long time.

Next time somebody says if you dont like something the only acceptable form of activism is to civilly contact your representatives show them this comment which basically boils down to "we've received a bunch of comments asking us not to ban tik tok which really highlights how important it is that we abn tik tok."

What's stopping them from using the same playback in the future.

"A bunch of people called me and encouraged me to support universal Healthcare which is just proof universal Healthcare is a Chinese psyop meant to distract us from the real work of legalizing child slavery."

The problem is people just use that thinking to justify whatever they're already doing.

If you want to talk about revolutionary principles I would think class solidarity and cooperation with your neighbors would be a lot better argument than "I should be able to do whatever I want without consideration for other because I'm working class so not letting me do whatever I want is suppressing the working class"

This is why it's an issue, because which side of a timezone you live on doesn't split down party lines.

For example when we set the clocks back it gets dark at 430 and this week if the first time I've seen sunlight outside of the time I'm in the office in months.

Anybody who supports a bill that would make it so I don't see the sun after 5 pm from October till June is worse than dead to me.

They make more money because instead of lecturing people about why it's unreasonable to expect them to shut down the concentration camps or not drill more oil than every country ever they get to send out fundraisers saying give them money so they can shut down the concentration camps and stop oil drilling.

The dems electoral strategy is to lose, "concede defeat with dignity" and then get to fund raise offf of pretending they wouldn't be doing the exact same thing as republicans if they were in power.

Losing elections is dems preferred state of being, they get to claim the moral high ground and insist they're just powerless to do the good things people want and fundraise by promising to do those good things if you give them enough money. Again.

It sucks this is what's probably going to happen because it's the worse of all options.

Damn you China for actually being level headed and thinking with long term strategies instead of doing something funny in the short term.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 57 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Chinese government should buy it and just exclude the American market.

All the kids will get vpns in 48 hours and how much America sucks ass will be the main kind of content on tik tok.

Literally just banning it so now China has to pay Facebook a nominal fee for the data.

I genuinely hope this causes young people to radicalize. They've been asking for a decade for somebody to do something about them being murdered by the dozens in school and after doing nothing they're going to ban the social media site young people use after allowing Facebook to do the same thing the whole time under the guise of "protecting children".

It'd be hard to come up with a more effective way to tell them electing dems doesn't accomplish anything good.
