Took out the entire quarter section of the school, if I remember correctly. Though "explosion" isn't technically correct since it was the fire that did the damage. The lab was never going to be sealed tight no matter how many towels he used, so the gas was never under the types of pressure necessary to cause an explosion; just a fireball that ignited everything around it.

Probably not "the incident" anymore, since it was almost 30 years ago now and no one left there likely remembers.

But a couple of years after I graduated, one of the kids who was a couple of grades behind me sneaked into the school at night, lit a bunch of candles on the floor of the chemistry lab and turned on all the gas taps and put towels under the doors so that the room would fill with gas starting from the top to the bottom. (I guess his chemistry class came in handy since he was smart enough to know that gases float to the top, giving him time to escape.

He went to Juvie for a while I believe, and then ended up living a pretty normal life. Last I heard he had been one of the people listed for the doomed-to-never-actually-happen "100 settlers on a one way trip to Mars" project. Haven't heard anything about him lately since I long ago deleted Facebook and so have no real contact with the people I went to highschool with anymore (just like the old days and I love it)

edited - Sorry, thought he was short-listed. But he was cut before the short-list was announced. Edited to change.

  • The switch to progressive lenses happened far sooner than I was hoping.

  • Graying in the beard stayed away for a long time, and then in a matter of a year, decided to attack with all of its might. (Probably the same on my head too, but I've been shaving it forever so I wouldn't know)

  • Heartburn troubles. Though that was less about ageing and more about gaining weight after quitting smoking twelve years ago.

  1. An Aero-Commander 500s Shrike. The beta is already released. Mostly I'm in the cleanup and programming plugin portion of the build.

  2. Yes. Bespoke as in "homemade/adhoc" I'm very much a spreadsheet nerd; they appeal to my need for order out of chaos.

The Dodleston Messages

Clearly a hoax. But a super fun and inventive one.

For work or for personal?

For work, it's my bespoke spreadsheet that automatically calculates when and how much I need to have on hand for any particular item. Our system is technically able to do this, but no one has ever turned it on, so I created one myself in order to get my inventory under control.

At home, it's probably the blender file of my current project for X-Plane that represents roughly a year and a half of my life so far. I have backups in multiple places of course.

There already has been a movie (L.A. Confidential), which is one of my favourite movies of all time. But to get it on the screen required a lot of rewriting to fit a complex weave of plots that intersect and takes 10 years to resolve. It was brilliantly done for what it was, but it left a LOT on the floor.

I would love love love to see an HBO or similar series that is as true to the novel by James Ellroy as it could possibly be.

I just watched a long deep-dive going through the police interrogation with her. And ironically its one of the few times I've come out of it with respect for the cops in situations like this.

They picked up right away that she had researched stand-your-ground and used it to plan the murder and weren't letting her get away with it.

Good video. Long. But worth it.

They've also figured out that the way to make Trump lose his shit repeatedly is to not react to his bullshit in any way except dismissiveness. Make an off-handed burn comment and then move on with your own platform like the senile old fuck doesn't even deserve more than that.

Comments like "Whatever that was" and "Can't run a livestream", etc... is just the perfect off-hand snark to use because it turns him into a joke, but doesn't lessen his threat. It's a position of "Can you fucking believe that this joke of a human is actually a threat to our democracy people? Like WTF" is basically the gist of her snark remarks. And it's totally having the effect they want.

I’m thinking older school gay stuff where men used to marry women for society and then fuck around with men outside of the marriage) means she is a marriage of convenience.

Freddie was 100% pan. It wasn't a relationship of convenience. That's on record, actually. I recall an interview where he said that she was probably of the greatest loves of his life.

Freddie wasn't gay, straight, bi, etc... He was Freddie.

I prefer to block individual users rather than whole communities simply because doing so could lead to an echo chamber of not proper mitigated.

However, I do block anything related to anime or waifu. And general porn.

I'm not prude, but Lemmy is where I come to discuss/debate a range of topics with others so I'd like to be able to open it in public.
