Vegemite tastes like what I imagine the under-side of a cow to taste. It tastes like the smell of road surface. It should have a warning label: Not to be taken orally. It's clearly a prank that Australia plays with everyone.

Also, I was born in England, but have lived in Australia for 25 years.

My apologies as I really didn't answer your question.

I suppose it'd be hard, because everyone is unique and different, as is their relationship with their parents, their histories and so on.. If my question was to be "Why did you decide to marry each other? What made that person the right person for you?" for example, that question might not really be something you'd consider asking your own parents. Maybe they weren't married, or even together? Maybe it's a culture where arranged marriage occurs...

I suppose the best thing I could think of that I should ask my parents is about me, my upbringing and their ideas of what and who I would be, and what they did to try to shape me into who I am. Thats a very specific thing that only my parents could really answer, and it'd probably help me better understand myself and may help me be a better parent too...

I hope thats been more helpful :)

Yo, I had a vasectomy at 31, but then loads of stuff happened and at 33 I met my now wife... and spent $12,000 australian reversing the vasectomy.... I was CERTAIN I didn't want kids.

Just a thought..

That said, I still don't regret having the vasectomy. I do regret the money lost.

Do you get to spend much time with them?

I still have my parents, luckily, but I can only imagine when they're gone I'll regret not just being around them more while they're here, rather than regretting not asking them something in particular...

I have no personal experience with the app at all, so what I am about to say comes from things I heard, or inferences I've made about the app - but...

I see the merit of an app like this for keeping people safe, but have no idea how it could be used without any possibility of it being abused.

On the face of it all, basically, if a man is abusive or in any way dangerous, or raises "red flags" for women, this app can help other women be aware. Lots of narcissistic assholes come across as lovely people at the start, but by the end are abusive people. My wifes ex husband, is one example, of a psychopathic narcissist. If only we could utilise an app like this to let other women know just who he is, and what to watch out for...

On the other side of it, of course, it's all too easy to say someone is abusive or dangerous to defame or isolate that person. Women have the ability to be just as abusive as men. An abusive woman may use this app to make other women in their community scared of/avoidant of a man who isn't in any way a danger to anyone.

Basically, my understanding of the app is that it allows women to give information about men they know and have dated, so other women can get a sort of background check on said men

But this, of course, could easily be misused and abused.

The app also required photo ID to prove you were a woman using the app, which recently was breached and ALL of the ID that was submitted is now viewable by anyone. So... yeah

Fair question, honestly. AI is everywhere now, so I get the suspicion. But nah, I’m just a regular human with questionable sleep habits and a keyboard. 😅 If I were AI, I’d probably be way better at spelling and less distracted by snacks. Want me to prove it by rambling about something weirdly specific and human, like how I always overthink replying to threads like this?

I work disability support and have found ChatGPT to be really helpful for someone I work with who has cerebral palsy. Basically he prompts GPT to make his sentences more concise and it does just that.

For him, that's really helpful.

Of course, to each their own, but I believe it does have its place in assisting people with disabilities IF THEY WANT AI ASSISTANCE

I'm not arguing against anything you've said. In fact, I said most of what you just said 2 replies ago.

The original post context was the banning of meat

I'm not saying government shouldn't regulate safety - but that if something is safe for consumption it shouldn't be banned, like the original posts example of meat.

[–] AceSLive@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I feel those examples are less about eating the meat (well, aside from all the issues that come with eating humans) and more about preventing them becoming meat in the first place - but yes, with everything theres nuance and outliers, but as a general I'd say that if people know what they're eating and know the risks, and what they do doesn't pose risk to others then let them eat whatever it is they're eating...

I feel a reply I made to someone else addresses my side of this:

"Context was the idea of a government banning meat" says the original post.

I agree that you can't possibly be fully informed on every part of everything you buy or consume, there's too much info and for a lot of it you need a good understanding of biology, science and food science to even grasp what some ingredients are for and how they work.

I am not against the governments telling people the dangers of certain foods (such as increased cardiovascular issues with overconsumption of red meat, or risk of stroke due to smoking) but as long as the consumer is informed of such, it should be up to them - not up to the government banning something like meat

And I'm against the abuse animals suffer and the whole meat industry, by the way. I hate what happens to the animals, but thats a whole other can of worms...
