Honestly the silver lining with all this is how innately obvious it is what it is currently.

Literally just reeks of the same level of effort as someone making a meme out of clipart or one of those boomers that uses that fancy Facebook status feature.

If you need to generate a hero image to make your witty tweet good enough to share, maybe go back to the drawing board

A quick Google has reminded me I'm specifically thinking of a Cretan greek salad: https://hungryhappens.net/dakos-salata-cretan-salad/

Paris sucks

Anyone who's been to Paris will probably agree, especially Parisians

Greek salad is a fruit salad

Tbh a proper one is just a deconstructed sandwich

The font choice of the chart legend makes me think it was added on top of the original

I wonder if that exists somewhere, would make a cool t-shirt

There's also a maintained fork called Swanstation that is related to the retroarch project

Had to look it up myself

Wero is a European mobile payment system that should replace Giropay in Germany, Paylib in France,[1] Payconiq in Belgium[2] and Luxembourg, and iDEAL in the Netherlands. The service was launched on 2 July 2024 by the European Payments Initiative.[3] The service competes with PayPal, credit cards and similar services. It started as a real-time payment system in 2024, and from summer 2025 extended online payment functions were added on a step-by-step basis.

Looks like it's an effort to standardise all the local versions of the same payment systems, which seem to be P2P mobile money transfer and payment systems

When more of my friends lived a walkable distance from me it was more the pub round the corner a few times a week. Now people have dispersed a bit, things need to be a bit more scheduled and so we're less likely to fall into a default place

Coffee shops sadly don't tend to be open late so they're not really gonna work as the default place to casually meet mates for anyone in a 9-5 job IMO.

Hopefully I can illuminate

Team sport fandom traditionally trends with locality. You grow up with going to the local football stadium on the weekend as one of the options for how you spend your time. Your mates have the same choices, so even if you never pick it, you're gonna hear about it at the very least

If you spend your time with a team, you get to know the players (which is kinda parasocial in most instances, ngl) and in many cases watch them grow over the years into incredible athletes.

Naturally, people end up proud of the people they support, doing well. It's part of the human condition

IIRC most of the world relies on ground fault protection to protect against failure which is why we use ground pins, in Japan they detect short circuits which is roughly equivalent in safety.

I'm not sure why or how, but I remember from when I looked it up when I was out there last year that was the explanation I found

Edit: I'd love to be corrected by whoever downvoted

As the festival draws to a close, and I've been sadly watching from home this year—what's everyone's highlights?

I might just be still in shock, but holy shit The Prodigy just absolutely demolished it.

Biffy, Franz and Scissor Sisters being the other most memorable shows I've seen so far. I've enjoyed a lot of what's been on West Holts as per usual.

A little disappointed in Neil Young's set, he felt a bit lacking in energy to me, but maybe I set my expectations a bit high. I think Pulp put on a great show, but I'm not sure it deserves the lauding it seemingly got in this morning's press.

I finished work a bit early today, went for a walk, met a friend at a newly opened pub, watched the football with a few pints and just got back home.

Another fun Friday to put into the box of fun Fridays

What's going on in your corner of the world?

It is known across Liverpool as the Radio City tower but that moniker may not be around much longer as the structure hosts its final live broadcast on Christmas Eve.

Microphone cables are being bundled up and heaving contacts books packed into boxes, leaving empty what is arguably the most famous building of the city’s skyline – St Johns Beacon, to use its proper name.

Built in 1969, originally as a luxury revolving restaurant that was one visited by Queen Elizabeth II, the tower was listed Grade II in 2020, with Historic England describing it as “embodying the technological bravura and spirit of the space age”.

What would you add/change for next time

I know I could do with a sweeter red vermouth

Uefa has warned ministers that England could be excluded from the European Championship it is co-hosting in 2028 over "concerns" that a planned independent football regulator could lead to "government interference" in the sport.

A bill to establish a body to oversee the top five tiers of the men's game in England was reintroduced in July.

The UK government has said the football watchdog will "protect clubs" by "ensuring their financial sustainability".

But in a letter sent to Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy and seen by BBC Sport, Uefa general secretary Theodore Theodoridis wrote: "We do have concerns remaining... as normally football regulation should be managed by the national federation.

So canvas is on again this year! We could try and be a bit more organised this time if people are around

I've not started anything yet

Honestly, I will never wrap my head around how people can happily bring infants on any flight where you can expect people to try and sleep, it's incredibly lucky if they don't spend some of it screaming their heads off—I would be mortified if my choices were preventing hundreds of people from sleeping. But I'm not going to rant too hard about that.

Why on earth hasn't any airline started marketing adult-only flights?

It seems like a complete no brainer to me, I would choose it every time and pay extra for it.

Disclaimer: I may or may not be on a 36h day with only an hour of sleep right now
