Definitely not like r/PortlandOR, yikes!

Tbh it sounds like you really don't like Lemmy and would rather use something else instead

I am seeing in the issue tracker that v0.18 is going to migrate away from using websockets, which should resolve the issue. Not sure when the devs are planning to release that.

I have a feeling that given a couple of years, things will settle out a bit and be more like Mastodon.

Could you imagine if your ISP/Gmail was so particular about what servers you could send email to?

There will always be valid reasons to defederate, although I think the bar for that is going to end up pretty high and well-defined in the future, but it's sort of an organic process to get there.

It was a mistake (though natural) to trust Reddit with all that knowledge in the first place.

I typically hope that any property, anywhere would be used from something, anything other than parking, however in this case it seems like it's appropriate, since it will directly service the park.

I do think the ideal would be to build them out into public plazas like Director Park, with a water feature and many trees.

True, but isn't it a great opportunity to rename the women's interest comm as something that's not trans-exclusive?

It would be cool to have a place that doesn't represent the "very liberal" politics of the city, if you know what I mean

I'm not trans, so defer to others as appropriate

The question of "the children" will come up:

  • It would be good to understand the recommended treatment program that is implemented for trans youth (hint: it's not surgery).
  • What is definitive is that care for trans youth saves the lives and well being of the people who have access to it. You can easily find creators on Youtube or TikTok who will talk about their experience firsthand, whether they received treatment when they were young, or wished that they did.
  • On the "permanence/regret/detransition" angle that people are concerned about: there's a stat that someone else can probably post, but the rate of "regret" of gender confirming care is significantly lower than many common cosmetic procedures. Detransitioners are a small minority, and transphobic detransitioners who are outspoken about being "tricked" or something are even smaller still.
  • Other likely thing is bathroom stuff, but like most transphobia it gets nonsensical fast since the only way for that to work is for someone to think "I can always tell" which is always false false false.

Oh, duh. It's similar though:

The link is a "permalink" to the comment on my instance (as I see it).

The fediverse icon is a permalink to the comment on the commenter's instance (which in this case would be yours at latte.isnot.coffee. You can see this if you hover over each one, or right click and select "copy link" and paste it somewhere.

These are from the inbox view, right? Let me know if you see them next to each other elsewhere.

The paperclip will take you to a "context view" of the reply. The fediverse icon takes you to the content on its native instance (which may or may not be your own).

You are welcome to contribute to the project here: https://github.com/LemmyNet

I know that the devs are only going to see feedback if it's on the Github.
