"[M]eeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
A PieFed commuity dedicated to promoting sustainability and sustainable development.
For discussion of environmental, climate, clean energy, social, political, and individual action. A place for news, education, questions, and discussions.
Rules:
- Don't be a dick.
- If it fits an UN Sustainable Development Goal, it's probably welcome.
- Links to articles should leverage the original article title. Minor edits in [square brackets] for clarity/to reduce clickbait are probably fine.
- We all know corporations & governments are the main problem, and collective action + legislation is the best path forward. That said, someone needs to show support for a more sustainable market - to that end, discussion of individual action is encouraged, and "whatabout big oil" comments in posts about individual action may be removed with prejudice. You're not wrong, but see rule 1.

What was that game called again? This is a community for finding the name of a game that you can't remember.
- One game per post
- Update your post after it's solved
- Don't need a dick
- Title as [platform][estimated year] description of game
- No mindless copy-pasting of AI-generated answers
Welcome to the community for those of us gaming on "humble" hardware. Whether you’re rocking a 10-year-old ThinkPad, a budget laptop with integrated graphics, or you’re just a fan of modern games that can run on a toaster, you’re home.
We’re all about finding those hidden gems that run on anything, sharing optimization tweaks to squeeze out an extra 5 FPS, and proving that you don't need a $3,000 rig to have a good time. If it runs at 720p/30fps, it’s a win in our book.
Community Rules
Don’t be a hardware snob. We’re here because we aren't chasing the "Ultra" settings. Mocking someone for their specs or telling them to "just buy a new PC" is the easiest way to get banned. Be cool.
Post your specs when asking for help. If you’re asking "Can I run this?", please include your CPU, RAM, and GPU (or integrated chip). We’re nerds, but we aren't psychics.
No Piracy. Don't post links to ROM sites, "cracked" games, or repacks. We want to keep this community safe and visible on the Fediverse without getting the admins in trouble.
Keep it relevant to low-spec life. General gaming news is fine, but we prioritize posts about optimization mods, low-spec benchmarks, and "Potato-friendly" game recommendations.
No low-effort self-promo. Don’t just drop a link to your Twitch or YouTube channel. If you made a video specifically about how to run a certain game on old hardware, that's fine—just engage with the comments and be part of the conversation.

FAQ
"How much does traveling cost?"
Cost of living(rent, utilities, data/wifi, groceries) is $500 USD per month for most countries, $1000 for most others.
"Health care and insurance?"
Health care and insurance abroad are both pennies on the US dollar for the highest quality of medical care
"What about visas?"
You usually don't need them; when necessary, visas are almost all entirely online: a fifteen minute e-form and nominal fee offset in your first day by the drastically lower cost of living abroad.
"How do you make money while abroad?"
Any job that nets you $500+ a month works. There are almost 2 billion English students globally right now, so native English speakers have lucked into a guaranteed job on or offline.
"What qualifications do I need as an English teacher?"
Some countries and schools require a TEFL certificate or prefer candidates with an associate's degree depending on the position, but if you want to teach English, all you need is to be a fluent English speaker.

Rules
- NO SOURCING - You will be permanently banned on your first violation, regardless of whether you are offering or requesting. This includes "hit me up in DMs" type of 'subtle' sourcing posts. Sorry, it's not a moral thing, just a legal and practical thing. This rule also extends to unregulated research chemicals / analogues.

- No Personal Contact Info
- Keep It Friendly - Be kind to your fellow humans. Disagreements, even impassioned ones, are fine. If you bring it down to the level of personal insults or excessive hostility, your posts may be removed. You may be banned in especially severe instances such as racism, sexism, Nazism, Zionism, etc.
- Do Not Encourage Opiate / Opioid Use - Due to the reality that opiate and opioid use can result in overdoses (and in some cases other physical harm), explicitly encouraging opiate or opioid use could be considered against Lemmy.World's Terms of Service. So feel free to discuss the substances as a reality of the human experience, but posts encouraging others to use will be removed.
- Harm Reduction - Posts explicitly encouraging dangerous behavior will be removed. For example, suggesting a dangerous combination of substances. Repeat or seemingly-intentional offenses will result in a ban.

Slow Librarianship is a practice that evolved in response to academic hustle culture but applies to all areas of library work. Julia Glassman coined the term in 2017, and Meredith Farkas, inspired by Julia’s work, has been speaking and writing on the topic since. The term grew at the same time as other social movements, largely in the context of the pandemic. The core idea of valuing quality over quantity is timeless and transcends states of emergency. These values are echoed in societal movements for a better mental health response in workplace culture and within libraries specifically push back against classist notions of service and emotionally- and economically-damaging vocational awe.
