I like the optics of the cut being wider ar the center height of the bread and narrowing towards the top. I wonder if I can do that deliberately. (feddit.de)

Deeper cut at the top, less so near the bottom?

Wouldn't it be the opposite, deeper cut resulting in a wider spread than shallower cut?

I don't know. OP's wording is poor. Deeper cut would make a wider split though.
