I misread your explanation and my brain interpreted "David Lynch directed an anime in the 90's"

man i wish. i know at least one big anime director has said he'd love to collab with lynch, imagine if ikuhara had done something with him in the 90s

I think Satoshi Kon might be a good fit for Lynch

does it? i feel like even the most lynchian of anime has deeply different vibes. like there are some episodes of utena or lain that feel distinctly lynchian, but even they're clearly coming at it from a very different angle
