7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

If you zoom in on the pic it rather looks like they were having one while spray painting!
Its installation was controversial and it has been egged and spat on – with some jokers even marking the statue as a public toilet on Google Maps.

I guess the article linked to says it is (I read a different article about this earlier to be fair), although I also think that's a guess by police that it's a woman if that photo is all they have to go on.

The fact that that needs to have disambiguation parentheses is even worse: it means there's more than one statue.
Keep doing it. Do it at night, so no one can catch you on CCTV. Make it too expensive to keep cleaning so they are forced to remove it.

I don't know if the timing was intentional or not. It's not the first time it was appropriately vandalized.
It was, as that article says, unveiled without ceremony. They knew people wouldn't approve of it. I guess they hoped they wouldn't notice it either.
