As the Digital Markets Act comes into effect today, Device Neutrality starts to become a tangible reality in the European Union. While acknowledging the new law, the FSFE alerts that this is only the first step and further commitment is necessary.

Unless you can run your code in your device at any point without signatures, internet checks and oversight from Apple there's no "Device Neutrality". There isn't also device freedom while you've large companies and govts in Europe forcing people to use mobile-only applications that will refuse to run on anything not stock Android or iOS for basic things like banking and digital signatures.

We don't even have consistent CPE neutrality yet. Maybe let's fix the stuff that should have worked for almost ten years before we get to new things?
