“We came to visit Russia as tourists for the New Year on December 27 and met an agent who helped us visit different places. He offered to take us to Belarus, but we were not aware we would need a visa for the country. We went to Belarus where we gave money to him, but he demanded more money. He abandoned us on a highway as we didn’t have the money to pay him,” one of the men can be heard saying in Hindi in the video.

“We were then caught by the police who handed us over to the Russian army.

We came to visit Russia as tourists

Boy, my sympathy went to 0 pretty damn fast. Might as well have said they went to Nazi Germany as tourists.

edit: grammar

There was a whole Olympics hosted by Nazi Germany.

[–] GenEcon@lemm.ee -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So Russia's worse than Hitlers's Germany?

[–] emberwit@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

Putin's Russia also hosted Olympics

I don't know if media coverage and public awareness about the atrocities are high enough in India to make that judgement.

Russia sell oil cheap to India, so they are good?

That's utterly vile, especially considering that India fought against the Nazis during WWII. I can't imagine being one of the soldiers that came back alive and seeing that shit in my own country.

[–] Deceptichum@sh.itjust.works -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don’t forget they fought against Nazi Germany because Britain owned them and forced them too.

Frankly I assume they’d have rather sat the whole thing out and as such I doubt they really cared all too much about a European conflict.

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It wasn't just a European issue. They had a name for these types of issues

The

Europe and European colonies plus Japan wanting to join in with European imperialism War?

Or

Europe and European colonies plus Japan wanting to do its own European imperialism after being stiffed last time War?

The world aspect was because Europe decided it owned the world, not because it was the worlds war.

There was conflict on nearly every continent, I'm not saying who started it, just where it happened.

There were based operations in india related to fighting in China and Burma for example.

Frankly this article is an interesting overview. Lots going on

During the Second World War (1939–1945), India was a part of the British Empire. British India officially declared war on Nazi Germany

Sure is a lot of Britain in there. Almost like India had no say in the matter🤔

How much of the world war was European colonial powers forcing natives of the lands they had invaded to fight their battles for them? Like I said it was a European war, just because every battlefield wasn’t in Europe doesn’t change that.

Just keep advertising your position with your phones, and the Ukraine will take care of you (and your Russian hosts).

[–] harderian729@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ukraine really isn't this unstoppable force you seem to make it out as.

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, they are not unstoppable, but if someone turns themself into an easy target...

[–] nac82@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Ukraine actively assists people looking to disband from the Russian military.

It's a weird concept you're floating. Who do you think wants to kill people who are essentially being used as meat shields by a fascist terrorist state?
