Why limit yourself to one or the other?

I have a good feeling about this chest. It doesn't feel like a mimic.

Can mimics look like people? Always thought they had to look like objects

Well, its not unusual that certain men objectify women.

It's also not unusual to be loved by anyone. I'm even told that it's not unusual to have fun with anyone!

But when I see you hanging about with anyone, it's not unusual to see me cry.

Good thing I'm more of the "homebody with social anxiety" type, then 😁

The 5e rules state "object", but various others sources and rules just clarify they change shape.

Most mimics don't chat, so these mimics are clearly a little more sophisticated.

Plus this is a golden lady, which seems more object-like (statue) than person like.

I think it's fair.

i would say that in a less game-y setting the mimics would just tend to go for objects because mimicking living moving things makes it blitheringly obvious that they're mimics, i mean just look at how much we actual humans struggle to animate realistic humans without people finding them horrifying.

But like, it would be totally fair game to be fooled by a human-shape mimic if it's in a dark room or something, though probably you'd still notice it's a bit weird when you get close (but that may be too late)
