These ads have the logo of the news station. SPONSORED as in claiming the news station paid for the ad making it look more official or giving an illusion of journalistic integrity or approval by the station.

Do these stations even know their copywrited logos are used as official campaign ads? Does that compromise their ability to cover the election? (Yes I know they're corrupt AF and manufactured consent) but did they give consent to the campaign?

Forbes

Here's a CBS Evening News one trying to sell people on nato-cool

You go to the menu to see the sponsor and this is what comes up.

Advertiser is VERIFIED by Google - BIDEN FOR PRESIDENT

Also The advertiser is responsible for the accuracy of this information which Google has not confirmed.

It seems like something that should be documented, legally checked, and I would love to get statements from the "news" stations who are "covering" the election and their trademarked logos slapped on ads especially under the word SPONSORED. Kind of muddy yea?

Maybe someone familiar with Youtube ad buying can weigh in, but I guess any advertiser can just sponsor a particular video or section of a video?

Years ago I worked on a Google adwords auto-bidding feature for a bit firm... I don't think there was any verification of the ad-buyer controlling the URL which the ads went to (no real point since that URL could look one way to a moderator one day and redirect to a totally different location shortly after go-live).

Yeah, pretty sure that's what's happening.

SPONSORED literally means that it is an ad so that it is not misconstrued as a news article.

You know, the opposite of Fox News which pretends that Republican ads are news stories.

Yes we understand it's an ad. The problem is misleading in the channel name next to the word SPONSORED with "news" channel's logo and text in the thumbnail which is designed to mislead people that the channel SPONSORED the Biden for President ad.

Using "news" channels name and likeness as if it was an organic news story or endorcement by the channel. Using the same manipulative tactics as Fox and possibly legally dubious for the Biden campaign. If you work on that genocidal bastard's campaign consider it a courtesy some jagoff on an obscure form is pointing it out instead of legal departments from these multibillion dollar sue happy megacorps.

Go and use your earned media for your ads but don't go brandishing it as an approved journalistic piece from these channels.

SPONSORED - Biden for President

Logo - campaign logo

Tumbnail pic text - nothing or name of ad like

Hey you dog-faced-pony-soldier. Nazis Are Taking Over but at least it's not those Commies! Come on, Jack don't you remember the Cold War? We gotta replenish the old shit we used in the burn pit called Ukraine. We got a new Hot-Cold war! Don't you want new toys? What Genocide we got corrupt union reps to back us? Bomb Back Better! Inflation - let me inflate more sanctions on the world's resources! What are you talking about, the economy's doing fine. Now watch me kiss Muesolini's granddaughter as I sign another bomb package 😉 😘

But I suppose those don't focus group nearly as "People are more likely to click on their familair news stations than anything you are trying to sell."

Still feels scummy, especially given how its being published on news channels. I'd like to think that people who find and watch these videos would know that these aren't really news articles, but years of helping people with their computers lead me to know better than.

But it is a news article, the sponsoring is just paying for the promotion of it.
