Am I reading this right...

NYT posts sensational/false weaponized sexual violence article sometime between October-December.

NYT is going to post a follow-up article, but faces crisis of either repeating false claims or downplaying how much sexual violence occurred, essentially admitting they lied earlier. This internal debate gets leaked to The Intercept

NYT conducts "witch hunt" interviews of staff to find who leaked to The Intercept.

That's how I read it. What I want to know, that this article didn't cover, is: where did the original bad reporting come from and why did it get published?

The Intercept: “Between the Hammer and the Anvil” The Story Behind the New York Times October 7 Exposé

Quote from zei_squirrel, one of the people who broke the story "this is amazing. The New York Times is actually going to investigate and punish people over its biggest hoax since Judith Miller fabricated by Adam Sella, Anat Schwartz and Jeffrey Gettleman: By hunting down anyone who dared criticize it. This is insane"

They're one of the reasons why I"m still on that hellsite.

The Intercept article: “Between the Hammer and the Anvil” The Story Behind the New York Times October 7 Exposé

Israel promised it had extraordinary amounts of eyewitness testimony. “Investigators have gathered ‘tens of thousands’ of testimonies of sexual violence committed by Hamas on Oct. 7, according to the Israeli police, including at the site of a music festival that was attacked,” Schwartz, Gettleman, and Stella reported on December 4. Those testimonies never materialized.

“It doesn’t make any sense,” said Abdush’s sister, that in a short timespan “they raped her, slaughtered her, and burned her?” Speaking about the rape allegation, her brother-in-law said: “The media invented it.”

It’s incredible how liberals are getting fucked over for being slightly critical of Israel and genocide, and yet no one in these circles will ever see the bigger picture and realize the media and politicians supporting this narrative are demons.
