You just had a social media platform named after you

[–] jerrimu@lemmy.world 36 points 2 years ago (1 children)

On behalf of Gen X I humbly refuse.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

As member of Gen X, I second the motion.

[–] Hextic@lemmy.world 74 points 2 years ago (7 children)

Lemme sum up Gen X

Oh well whatever, nevermind

That's on y'all 😂 in practice the older of you is indistinguishable from Boomers and the younger are basically Oregon Trail Millennials like myself. Analog childhood, digital adulthood.

[–] YourHuckleberry@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Here we are now, entertain us.

[–] voidMainVoid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

How now, how now, how now brown cow

[–] lance20000@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago

Like, you know, whatever.

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's a very good summary. I find some young gen x and older millennials to be borderline luddites as well, but generally share social values.

Or they were omitted because Gen X isn't harassed by boomers most of the time, and us Millennials know that they're chill with us. And personally, I don't care what a bunch of teenagers thinks of me. Or any other generation for that matter. I only care about what the people close to me think of me.

teenagers

The cutoff for Gen Z is 1997, which means there are 26 year old zoomers.

I know, I don't like it either -- 1997 was 16 years ago at most.

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like how Gen Z has the easiest litmus for qualification. If you were old enough to remember 9/11, you're not a Zoomer.

It's a lot trickier for Millennials, because everyone disagrees on when it starts, but most people agree that they grew up during a time where access to technology was just starting to take off.

They're scared to harass us, well put them in a nursing home.

[–] zombie_kong@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

That’s how we like it.

[–] BrownTown@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I feel like Gen X has never been forgotten. Us Millennials never got an intro like you guys did: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i011c5NcPsg

[–] SteefLem@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Was about to say i think they missed a step

[–] Brocon@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I’m willing to bet there’s some projection in this comic because I’ve never cared what younger generations think of me

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 61 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I dont care what any age people think of me really but i still kinda relate to this comic in a way as in i think the kids will be allright.

So many people older then me seem to dunk on genz culture like its all stupid and dumb but there i am Sitting like. “I may not understand all of this and maybe some parts i recognize as unhealthy but there is some real intelligent value and original creativity here” Also all just the openness towards the exploration of identities and mental health awareness. I’ll take a tiktok skit over an anti wife boomer comic every day. I appreciate it, i cant wait to befriend some gen z on my job when they start to get to their late 20s.

[–] FoxBJK@midwest.social 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Being friends with people younger than you is fine. Desperately craving their approval (which is what the last panel seems to imply) is not.

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 34 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Sure but it is a comic and and an exaggeration.

Are you new to Sarahs scribbles? There often exaggerated but good fun.

The oldest of them are 25/26. The future is now!

[–] And009@reddthat.com 3 points 2 years ago

Probably some degree of projection here, I'd want to know what the younger generation thinks of me as well.

The mature part would be not to be negatively affected irrespective of what the answer is.

[–] rambaroo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah I don't get this comic. It would've made sense if it said something along the lines of "being poor sucks, huh?"

[–] MossBear@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago

I think it's less about the literal line being said and more about the insecurity of a generation relentlessly blamed for everything. I like it.

GenX here. Have never felt more middle childish.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

We are the "Jan" generation...

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!

[–] Noedel@lemmy.world 5 points 2 years ago

I think GenX often gets forgotten because you're born too late to be responsible for anything the boomers did but too early to really get fucked by it like younger generations.

Graduating uni in the GFC sucked and it'll follow many millenials for the rest of their lives.

Yeah, she's a talented artist. I love simple art that looks great. It sometimes blows my mind how much can be expressed with a few lines and simple shading.
